Save the Children Legal Counsel (Compliance) Jobs in Kenya
Principal Accountabilities
Deliver high‑quality and professional advice and support to SCI Country Offices and Global Teams on diverse legal issues.
Advise senior stakeholders across the organisation on legal, regulatory, and compliance matters.
Support the Head of Legal Compliance with team strategy and annual planning, including overseeing compliance frameworks.
Represent the Legal Team at cross‑functional meetings and committees as appropriate.
Prepare papers for SCI’s Audit & Risk Committee.
Lead development and delivery of training on legal compliance risks.
Manage potential disputes against SCI and support internal investigations.
Lead compliance aspects of humanitarian responses.
Manage advice from external law firms and help stakeholders interpret and apply such advice.
Undertake line management and/or mentor junior team members.
Carry out other legal duties as reasonably required.
Experience and Skills
Essential
Senior‑level post‑qualification experience in private practice or in‑house in areas such as sanctions, export controls, bribery laws, charity law, modern slavery, regulatory compliance, or dispute resolution.
Demonstrated ability to partner with functions/teams to deliver pragmatic, legally appropriate solutions.
Sound judgement and ability to manage multiple stakeholders and tasks under pressure.
Skilled at applying technical expertise to practical problem‑solving.
Strong time management skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to communicate complex information effectively.
Excellent spoken and written communication
skills in English.
Calm disposition and positive outlook under pressure.
Team player with appreciation of collaboration.
Commitment to Save the Children’s mission, vision, and values.
Desirable
Knowledge of international development, humanitarian, and/or charity sectors.
Experience working in an international organisation.
Experience operating across jurisdictions, including instructing overseas counsel.
In‑house experience.
Ability to work in another SCI core language (French, Arabic, or Spanish) desirable but not essential.
Education and Qualifications
UK or common law qualified lawyer or barrister.
Significant post‑qualification experience (years PQE).
