Role Purpose:

  • The overall purpose of the health cluster is to Provide health leadership in emergency and crisis preparedness, response and recovery; Prevent and reduce emergency-related morbidity and mortality;
  • Ensure evidence-based actions, gap filling and sound coordination; and Enhance accountability, predictability and effectiveness of humanitarian health actions.
  • The Health Cluster Co-Coordinator will contribute for the fulfilment of the Health Clusters purposes, which are to provide substantial assistance in the implementation of inclusive, field-level humanitarian coordination mechanisms, including liaison with relevant UN operational agencies, NGOs, and local authorities.

    Qualifications and Experience Essential

  • Degree in medicine and /or Public Health.
    Health professional with extensive experiences of humanitarian response and coordination mechanism for 5-6 years, of which at least 3 in managing and coordinating health programme in chronic, acute and sudden-onset emergencies.
  • Prior experience on coordination, representation, negotiation,
  • Experience of preparing successful funding proposals for donors,
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to write clear and well-argued assessment and project reports and a high level of written and spoken English
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
  • The capacity and willingness to be flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of humanitarian coordination.
  • Familiar with the South Sudan health system and context, as well as working and living experiences in South Sudan
