Terms of Reference for Team Building Event Organizer Consultant for Growth through Nutrition Activity’s Year IV Annual Review and Planning Workshop

Introduction:

Save the Children leads the implementation of Feed the Future Ethiopia Growth through Nutrition Activity, United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID’s) flagship five-year (2016-2021) multi-sector nutrition and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) project, which aims to improve the nutritional status of women and young children in the four productive regions of Ethiopia.

The project focuses on the first 1,000 days, from pregnancy through a child’s second birthday, recognized as the critical window of opportunity for a child’s growth and development.

Project overview

The project works to promote and deliver nutrition-sensitive livelihoods and agriculture activities; social and behavioral change communication (SBCC) on nutrition, WASH, and agriculture-related behaviors; utilization of quality nutrition services; WASH products and services; and, promote multi-sector coordination and capacity to implement the National Nutrition Program (NNP) and One WASH National Program (OWNP).

In addition, the project implements cross-cutting activities, including gender and women’s empowerment, a rigorous learning agenda, convergence and overlay of multi-sector activities, and a crisis modifier to respond to unforeseen threats to development goals of the project.

Scope of Work

Growth through Nutrition plans to conduct its Year III Annual Review and Planning Workshop in Adama for the period August 6-8, 2019. The objective of the workshop is to review Year III program performance, discuss challenges and major lessons learned, and develop a work plan for Year IV project period.

The event will also provide refresher presentations on key SCI compliance topics such as safeguarding, accountability, fraud, and donor compliance.

Team building is a major part of the Annual Review and Planning Workshop. Growth through Nutrition aims to boost the commitment of project staff, ensure staff are refreshed and well acquainted with one another, and to encourage teamwork. A total of 180 national, regional, and zonal staff members will be in attendance.

The event-organizing/entertainment consultant will be expected to conduct well-organized team building activities, hold brief refresher sessions, hold
entertainment session at the closing dinner, and assist the team with overall time-management of the event.

The project team should leave the workshop having gained valuable skills such as team work, communications, and problem solving as well as be entertained.

Expected deliverables

The consultant is expected to present four brief refreshers per day. These will be used to inform/entertain workshop participants during meeting hours.

They should take no longer than 10 minutes and may involve anywhere between 1-10 people. The consultant is also expected to present three large scale team building activities per day.

The project will allocate anywhere between 30 minutes to two hours for these activities. Team building activities should involve all participants (which can be broken down into more manageable group sizes) and teach the team valuable skills and lessons.

Activities should take the project’s objectives into consideration and reflect nutrition-related topics where applicable. The consultant will get support from the Growth through Nutrition team to ensure desired outcome.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of experience working in event organizing, entertainment, facilitation, or related field.

  • Experience working in NGO setting, organizing workshops for professional staff, conducting team building activities for office settings.

  • Excellent technical capacity to ensure smooth delivery of activities while simultaneously relaying valuable skills and lessons.

  • Demonstrated facilitation and event organizing skills.

  • Experience working with Save the Children is a plus.

    Those who satisfy the criteria indicated above will be considered for selection and those who win the offer shall be awarded the jobs. Applicants are expected to submit their copy of TIN number and Trade License.

    SC shall withhold 2% if the individual consultant has a TIN number & License or 30% where he/she does not have a TIN number & License as per the Ethiopian Tax legislation.

    Technical proposal, including resume of the consultants with supporting documents, printout documents that show previous work experience, names and contact information of a minimum of two previous clients, and financial proposals should be submitted separately in a sealed envelope on or before July 20, 2019 at 4:30 P.M in person.
