Role Purpose

Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Assistant who also double as the Safety and Security Assistant will work closely with the Field Managers in Ibadan and Lokoja, will lead the implementation, monitoring and reporting/ documentation of HSSE compliance, and ensure all Save the Children International (SCI) Safety and Security Policy/standards/SoPs and other relevant guidelines are complied with by all staff/ consultants/visitors/volunteers/vendors/beneficiaries of the ANRiN project in Oyo and Kogi states.

He/She will also assist the Country Office (CO) security team on the regular collection and collation of all Safety & Security information across the project area and compute same in the system, using appropriate software and hardware.

The Safety & Security Coordinator and the Head of Safety and Security in the country office will provide support for the implementation of SCI programs in the ANRiN Programme Offices in Kogi and Oyo.

Head, Safety and Security (HoSS), CO – Technical Line

Key Areas of Accountability

  • Assist the STL in the implementation of general regulations, methods and processes designed to help protect staff, the environment, the public and all SCI assets from harm.

  • Assist the Oyo and Kogi teams in trip planning activities from trip requests, location scanning/assessment, movement tracking/ records/timing, follow-up on travel SoPs compliance and filing of trip completion records and reporting all trip stoppages and hitches for immediate follow-up.

  • Administration and reporting of breathalyser and other HSS checks on the drivers daily and periodically.

  • Assist the Oyo and Kogi teams in the preparation of Health, Safety and Security related reports.

  • Collect/collate and report up-line, Health safety and security related incidents internally and externally.

  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of HSSE trainings and programmes in the offices.

  • Monitor Fleet activities and report on all breaches.

  • Carry out any other duty/responsibilities assigned by the STL, SSCo and the HoSS aimed at effective HSSE management in the Nigerian Country Office.

    Qualifications, Experience & Attributes

  • Bachelor's Degree in any of Humanities or Sciences and Security Management.

  • Certification in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE).

  • At least two years’ experience performing Security and HSE functions.

  • Strong learning attitude and capacity for learning and development of technical and professional skills.

  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an internationally diverse environment.

  • Strong Competency in Internet and Microsoft Office systems and other database/mapping systems

  • Fluency in English and any other Nigerian local languages.
