Save the Children Project Manager - Health & Nutrition Employment Opportunities in Kenya


Key Areas of Accountability:

  • Ensure that the project adheres to SCI’s essential standards on project management
  • Provides input on the recruitment and development of the project team, manages, mentors and provides expertise to them.
  • Responsible for the implementation and further development of Save the Children-supported programmes in the area office.
  • Review and regularly update detailed implementation plans, phased budgets, procurement plans, M & E plans, and work plans guiding all programme implementation and ensure this is used by the project teams to monitor project progress towards completion.
  • Identifies, tracks, monitors and communicates project-related issues, modifications, variances and contingencies that arise during implementation and facilitates effective solutions
  • Coordinates and manages relationships with the project’s internal and external stakeholders, including beneficiaries, contractors, partners, local government and other organisations
  • Monitors and pro-actively tracks and manages the project’s budget to ensure cost efficiency and effectiveness whilst avoiding budget overruns
  • Initiates the procurement and tender processes related to the project supplies in coordination with the logistics team and in compliance with Save the Children’s procurement policies and procedures
  • Oversees the documentation of all project activities, achievements and challenges in regular internal reports and also ensures that external reporting obligations are met

    Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in medicine, clinical medicine, nursing, midwifery or nutrition and dietetics. A masters’ degree will be an added advantage
  • At least 7 years work experience with a minimum 5 years in project management of health and nutrition projects in an international NGO or similar organization.
  • Demonstrable experience in all phases of project management.
  • Demonstrable experience in monitoring budgets
  • Proven team and personnel management experience
  • Proven analytical and strategic planning skills
  • Decision-making and leadership skills and excellent time management capacities
  • Highly developed interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, independently and with limited supervision
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • A good understanding of development issues and the policy context in Kenya.
  • A good understanding of the ASAL regions is an added advantage.
  • Security, political and cultural awareness
  • Willingness to learn new skills and methodologies
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Computer literate in word processing and excel packages
  • An understanding of child rights and their protection and fulfilment in the development context

    Save the Children Senior Regional Humanitarian Advocacy Advisor Employment Opportunities in Kenya

    Role Purpose:

    The regional humanitarian advocacy advisor provides overall advocacy support to Country offices running humanitarian response in the East and Southern Africa region.

  • He/she in liaison with the Regional Advocacy Director and Regional Emergencies Director will also be required to effectively provide strategic direction to Save the Children's humanitarian advocacy work in the region.
  • The role will be responsible for guiding development and implementation of humanitarian advocacy strategies that will influence government authorities, key donors, Save the Children members and other key stakeholders of the humanitarian response to achieve positive and lasting changes to fulfil children's rights both in the immediate relief phase of the response as well as in the recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction phases.
  • The role will interact with the Humanitarian Advocacy Working Group (HAWG) and represent Save the Children externally in country and internationally.
  • The function will be a focal person for advocacy enquiries in the Country Office / Response Team and from Save the Children International and individual Save the Children members.
  • The function will involve national, regional and international advocacy leadership on the immediate crisis and response, and related longer term issues.
  • This function will be part of the Response Team in order to ensure that key advocacy messages and strategies are informed by the response and shaped in close consultation with the Response Team Leader.

    Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of 7years advocacy experience in a corporate or an NGO environment, with experience in successfully leading the development and implementation of advocacy strategies and preferably with humanitarian advocacy experience
  • Good knowledge of the international humanitarian structures and systems
  • Experience in leading the creation and implementation of a strategy, demonstrating the ability to identify the necessary steps towards an ambitious goal
  • Experience of a range of campaigning and advocacy techniques and approaches
  • Experience in influencing government, donors, and other organisations through representation and/or advocacy
  • Demonstrable creative ability in accessing new opportunities, expertise and ideas
  • Demonstrable track record of leading change which has led to significant results for the organisation and their stakeholders
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing and negotiation
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Strong results orientation, with the ability to challenge existing mindsets
  • Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner
  • Strong research and policy development skills, good capacity to develop policy briefs and papers
  • Experience of building networks, resulting in securing significant new opportunities for the organisation
  • Excellence in written and spoken English.
