Save the Children Emergence Response Manager- National Position Jobs in Uganda

Closing date: 29 Mar 2019

We are currently recruiting for a Emergence Response Manager to lead on SCI Uganda Humanitarian strategy and help us re-imagine Humanitarian work in the 21st century.

In this role you will provide leadership and strategic direction on the delivery of Country Office humanitarian responses, with a focus on the Cat 2 refugee response (South Sudanese and Congolese refugees)

You will lead in the early warning, preparedness and planning for emergency response and support the implementation of humanitarian responses in SC Uganda. Your main focus will be to provide SCUG strategic response in close cooperation with the Programme Development and Quality (PDQ) team, followed by detailed planning and monitoring to ensure timely, adequate and well-funded activities in support of the affected population.

The job role includes working closely with the PDQ and Advocacy teams to support donor engagement and advocacy around humanitarian emergencies in Uganda.

You will coordinate and collaborate with the PDQ, Finance and Operations departments and field units to ensure Save the Children's commitment to improving quality and accountability in humanitarian work is upheld, and complies with all relevant policies and procedures with respect to child safeguarding, safe programming, health and safety, and donor compliance.

Ensure timely and accurate communications and media contributions and outputs to support the Appeal or member fundraising and submission of/quality reports and Sitreps as required by the internally classified emergency response category and RACIs.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is consistently dissatisfied with the status quo, but enough of a
realist to understand when to drive for change and when not to; to help ensure positive and lasting change in the lives of the most marginalized and vulnerable children.

In order to be successful you will bring:
  • Extensive experience of working within a senior management role and within a complex country programme in an emergency response or fragile state setting; and/or extensive experience of setting up responses in out of area contexts (either where no SC presence or CO presence); and/or extensive experience of working in high income contexts
  • Previous experience of managing programme teams in large-scale/complex, first phase emergency response.
  • Senior management experience of leading a diverse, multi-function and/or multi-sector team at SMT level.
  • Experience of managing multi-donor, multi-site programmes (including ECHO, DFID and OFDA) of GBP 5m+ in a first phase response at regional or country level.
  • Multi-site security management in insecure environments.
  • Experience in representation with key stakeholders, and co-ordination with other NGOs/UN
  • Experience in media representation and advocacy
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching
  • Experience of developing and negotiating successful partnerships with institutional donors
  • Proven ability to influence change at an operational and strategic level.
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
  • A high level of written and spoken English
  • The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of SC.
  • Good understanding of the SC.
