Role Purpose:

The ECCE Technology Advisor is a member of the USAID/LEGO Foundation supported Childhood development Project team. The project is implemented by Save the Children Ethiopia Office and local partners targeting crisis-affected pre-primary school age children in five regions of Ethiopia.

The ECCE Technology Advisor will provide technical leadership and expertise on the use of technology in ECCE intervention in an emergency settings. S/he support the Project Team tailoring ECCE lessons into dialogues, dramas, stories, interactive plays and songs using technology and lead the production interactive audio and print messages to be used in ECCE centers and community level.

The role holder will produce ECCE video lessons to be used in the regional Teacher Education Colleges ECCE resource centers after mapping and adapting existing ECCE audio, video and print materials and adapt them to tailored audio lessons in the form of drama, dialogue, stories and play games for children to interact.

Role Dimensions:

The ECCE Technology Advisor will collaborate with the project’s teacher education, SBCC, Gender & Inclusion and protection, as well as the ACCM team to ensure the audio-taped ECCE lessons, radio broadcast and print materials integrate gender and disability issues, and promote desirable social norms. She/he supports LIP staff to ensure use of audiotaped lessons in ECCE centers and at parental group session.

In close consultation with eh ACCM team, She/he ensures the radio broadcasted messages have power to influence audiences in the expansion of ECCE services in conflict and disaster affected areas. In collaboration with the project MEAL team, conduct assessment on the impact of the radiobroadcast and audiotaped lessons and dramatized messages access and use by the project stakeholders, and interpret results.

Key Areas of Accountability:

Technical Leadership:

  • Lead the mapping of existing audio, video and print production on Early Childhood Care and Education that are prepared for learning lessons, drama, dialogue, key messages and stories and adapt them to be used in audio and print forms to be used in conflict and drought affected areas.

  • Lead the development/adaptation of teachers’ guide on how to use audio dramas, stories, learning lessons and print materials in playful way

  • Lead the organization ECCE TE resource centers and organize learning platforms for target ECCE centers facilitators to benefit from the technology based resource centers

  • Lead the production/adaptation of ECCE video lessons, dramas, stories, songs for target ECCE facilitators and TE college use

  • Lead all the audio production/adaptation on ECCE to demonstrate conflict sensitivity, gender transformation and disability inclusion.

  • Support LIP staff to ensure guideline on the use audio and print productions are used and promoted playful learning in the ECCE centers.

  • Ensure graphics and pictorials prepared or adapted explain a particular skills or theme

  • Ensure the production tailored audio and print messages on SEL, PSS and parenting education

  • Support LIP to ensure audio and print messages in the form of drama, stories, songs are used in monthly TLC sessions to promote playful interaction between the ECCE facilitators and young children

    Ensuring Program Quality (Design & Implementation):

  • Work closely with new business development colleagues to identify and pursue funding

  • Lead the technical scoping and sequencing of tailored audio and print production on ECCE in the form of drama, stories, songs, and learning lessons.

  • Provide capacity building training to LIP staff on the use of audio and print productions to promote play in ECCE centers or at home.

  • Support LIP staff to collaborate with Teacher Education Colleges to ensure the resource centers video and audio productions are used by target ECCE center’/preprimary school teachers

  • Support LIP staff to ensure the adapted/developed audio and print production on ECCE in the form of drama, dialogues, stories and songs are used in ECCE centers and at parental group session using the solar radios

  • Ensure the production
    of tailored key messages on different themes are aired through regional and national radio broadcasted to influence stakeholders in the expansion of ECCE in the conflict and disaster affected areas

  • Collaborate with MEAL team in the assessment of the impact of audio, video and print material production in playful way in promoting playful learning using the tailored messages and learning sessions.

  • Coach and mentor LIP staff on the use of audio and print productions in promoting playful learning through dramatized messages, dialogues, stories and songs.

  • Contribute inputs to the preparation of case stories, project lessons and technical briefs on ECCE audio and print production use in promoting playful learning.

  • Participate in SCI-Education sector community of practice on lessons and evidences of ECCE tailored audio and print production on playful learning.

  • Facilitate and participate in joint field visits with LIP staff to provide on-site coaching and mentoring on the use of audiotaped lessons, dramas, dialogues, stories and songs promoting playful learning in the learning centers

  • Collaborate with procurement team, facilitate the procurement of quality solar radio, audio recorder, memory sticks, video recorder, display and related equipment

  • Lead technology based team to promote playful learning at ECCE center, parental engagement in the young children’s development and expansion of ECCE services in conflict and drought/disaster affected areas

    Networking & External Engagement:

  • Work with regional and district ECCEiE actors ( NGOs, CBOs, CSOs and community gate keepers) for the development of stories, dialogues, songs dramas and leveled learning lessons usable at ECCE center and community level

  • Participate on regional ECCE technical working groups and district level ECCEiE learning forums to demonstrate the role tailored locally customized audio and print production/adaptation in promoting playful learning

  • Engage community leaders, CBOs and CSOs members on story narrations, inputs for dialogue and drama write-up and adaptation.

  • Coordinate with technical colleagues from ECCEiE project and across Save the Children-Education, Child Protection and communication teams at a field level to produce and adapt tailored ECCE messages for radiobroadcast.

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in IT/Theatrical arts, Early Childhood Care and Education, Psychology Language and literature, Journalism, and related field
    Training in the production of audio and video scripts, dramatic learning lessons, and localized children's stories using technology

    Experience and Skills

  • At least 10-year experience in the production of audio, video, and print lessons in dramatized and playful ways, 1 year of experience in preparation of audio, video and print ECCE learning materials that are interactive and trigger play among young children using technology.

  • Exposure in the preparation of play script write-up, song, drama, and localized stories with moral values that nurture young children's development in a playful way

  • Understanding of Ethiopia’s ECCE policy framework and current ECCE strategic plan

  • Awareness of regional contexts particularly conflict-affected areas of northern Ethiopia and disaster/drought affected areas of southern Ethiopia.

  • Familiarity with ECCE and TE projects, and monitoring and assessment of the impact of technology based audio, video and print productions in promoting playful learning among ECCE children

  • Experience in developing project activity action plan and work with teams in accomplishment of the plan

  • Experience in mobilizing community to create conducive environment for ECCE services at community level

  • Able to use digital software for data collection and analysis such as KOBO TOOL BOX and SPSS

  • Experience in facilitating training, coaching mentoring, and working in team

  • Good report-writing skills in English
