East and Central Africa Interagency Working Group (IAWG) Director The IAWG is an active and inclusive regional membership led network which promotes effective humanitarian and development outcomes in complex environments across East and Central Africa.

The mission is to convene, network and actively challenging the aid community in East and Central Africa to support effective delivery of sustainable solutions that positively impact individuals and communities across the region East Africa has traditionally been, and is forecasted to remain, the centre of gravity for humanitarian need in the world.

Therefore, the IAWG is looking for a Director who can provide coordinated leadership, dynamism, creative strategic visioning and superb interpersonal networking skills to help the IAWG membership's Regional Directors provide a stronger and clearer voice and improved coordination.

The IAWG Director is responsible for facilitating coordination among the memberships Regional Directors and the sub-working groups and external stakeholders. The role will report to the elected Steering Committee. The coordination entails ensuring effective information exchange, as well as representing and advocating on common positions and agreed interests of the IAWG and wider humanitarian community.

The IAWG Director is also responsible for the general management of the IAWG, including the day to day administration and development of the staffing structure and the effective and regular communication on Forum performance to the IAWG Steering Committee.

The IAWG Director supports the work of the IAWG through the following key tasks: o Strategic management and oversight of the IAWG. o Formalization and management of the IAWG o Coordination and Communication o Partnership Relations o Human Resource Management (when applicable)

In order to be successful, you will bring/have:

Essential

  • Minimum ten years of progressive international experience working with UN, NGOs and/or Donor agencies - ideally with some regional level experience.
  • Significant experience leading senior leadership teams.
  • Undergraduate/postgraduate qualifications in international relations, political science, development or other relevant field
  • Demonstrated coordination experience in multi-agency forums
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills
  • Documented skills in developing proposals, budgets and reports
  • Significant experience in the development of advocacy, policy and key messaging documents
  • Strong understanding of the UN system, integrated missions and Grand Bargain work streams.
  • Significant understanding of complex emergencies and
    crisis contexts in East and Central Africa.
  • Proven communication, public speaking, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Previous work experience in East Africa. Fluency in written and spoken English is required
  • Holder of a valid international driver's license
  • Ability to work in Kenya.

    Desired

  • Prior experience working in ESA contexts
  • French language skills Contract duration: 2 years
