Job Title

  • Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE) Officer

    Role Purpose:

    Be responsible for promoting access to quality and inclusive pre-primary education to fulfil all children’s right to education, based on SCI’s vision, mission, and values; plans, implements and reports woreda based education project activities; organizes training programs for ECCE / O class teachers, parents and community, provides technical support to ECCE Centres/ O classes on quality delivery of play based learning ctivities ;

    Ensures cost effective budget utilization of the project; keeps close working relationship with networks and strategic partners such as Woreda Education office, Woreda Women, Youth and Children’s Affair Office and other development partners; monitors project implementation with participation of supervisors, community, PTA, children; documents education related data and prepares reports regularly.

    Job Specific Roles and Responsibilities

    Planning and Reporting:

  • In close collaboration with woreda education office, prepares annual and quarterly action plan and ensures timely submission to the respective woreda level
  • Ensure increased access to safe and inclusive pre-primary learning environment for 4-6 years children in 3 woredas
  • Provides follow-up and technical support for schools and woreda education offices ensure preparation of timely and quality quarterly and annual project progress reports on the prepared formats
  • Compiles school annual plan and reports at the respective woreda level and ensures timely submission for Jinka Field Office.
  • Conducts woreda based baseline assessment to identify program effectiveness, in terms of children learning outcome and project indicators
  • Ensure ECCE centres/ O classes are equipped with Education materials, print rich corners and outdoor materials.
  • Prepares compiled quarter and annual plan and report of the project for relevant government bodies at their respective woreda level and ensures timely submission
  • Reports on gaps observed to program coordinator or manager on time for taking action

    Coordination and Management of Projects Implementation

  • Ensures education project is implemented in a way that is responsive to teachers, the community, and children and in line with Save the Children principles, values as well as country office strategic plan.
  • Adheres to Save the Children compliance procedures and provide guidance and technical support to Woreda Education
    Offices, supervisors and others who have contact with children.
  • Ensures integration of ECCE/ O class project activities with Improvement of Quality Basic Education and Child wellbeing project activities through ensuring collaboration between project staff and government stakeholders;
  • Identifies gaps and provides technical and capacity building support for all stakeholders and WEO.
  • In close collaboration with the Programme Coordinator (at Field Office level) , WEO and other government stakeholders, facilitates on timely and quality implementation of the project activities based on the action plan and resource allocated
  • Ensure active participation of children and other stakeholders in the project activities implementation
    strengthens team spirit and collaborative work

    Supervision and Monitoring

  • In collaboration with the Programme Coordinator and government stakeholders, maintain strong supervision and monitoring system to measure achievement and progress toward the project objectives, expected outcomes and impacts
  • Conducts monitoring and supervision of the planned project activities and provides technical support to WEO and intervention schools to improve quality of delivery
  • Strengthens participatory and collaborative supervision and monitoring of project activities, including active participation of children

    Staff Management and Mentorship

  • Strengthens team spirit and team work with field office staff
  • Ensures that WEO and schools aware of the project objectives and expected outcomes;
  • In collaboration with the Programme Coordinator, facilitates recruitment, capacity building support and adherence of consultants to SCI values and child safeguarding.
  • In close collaboration with the Programme Coordinator, provides clear direction to intervention schools and teachers, as appropriate;

    Capacity Building

  • In collaboration with the Programme
  • Coordinator and other SCI and government stakeholders, identifies implementation gaps and facilitates capacity building training as well as support for supervisors, teachers, directors and other stakeholders;
  • Plans and facilitates trainings, capacity building of facilitators, communities, PTSAs based on project document and in line with those trainings delivered by the project at TOT level
  • Arranges experience sharing among schools;
  • Ensures that required and appropriate technical support is provided to directors, teachers, supervisors and children on time

    Job Requirements
  • BA degree in education
  • A minimum of two - three years of experience working in early childhood education or primary education or teaching experience with pre-primary and primary are required
  • Knowledge of computer operation
  • Fluency in English/ verbal and written
  • Commitment to Save the Children values
