  • Save the Children International is inviting applications from suitably qualified personnel to fill the position of Early Childhood Care and Development Technical Coordinator.

  • The Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Technical Coordinator will work under the guidance of the Technical Advisor- ECCD to support the design and delivery of Save the Children's ECCD programs in Malawi; providing appropriate technical leadership and mentorship on planning and implementing capacity strengthening assignments, program activities and ensuring there is knowledge sharing; creating a link between SCI and targeted communities, government departments at district level (Ministries of Gender, Education Health and Agriculture) and local implementing partners.

  • The role holder will have a particular focus on planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring and reporting of ECCD and Mental Health Psychosocial Support activities in the Abwenzi A Ana project in Ntcheu district as guided by the program goals, objectives and implementation framework.

  • S/he will coordinate the implementation of high quality ECCD programme activities that deliver change for children in both emergency and development programming through use of SCI's two common approaches namely; Building Brains and Read to learn while also being a lead trainer and mentor in Healing and Education through Arts (HEART).

  • The position holder will be expected to support the AAA Programme Manager with monitoring and evaluation to demonstrate impact of both ECCD and HEART projects within the AAA programme, while sharing learning across SCI programmes, teams and partners.

  • The role will work closely with other operations colleagues and with partners in Ntcheu, building their capacity and promoting ownership and agency with an eye towards sustained capacity and action on ECCD and HEART activities. In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly. Furthermore, the role holder will also be expected to provide significant mentoring and capacity-building to ECCD partners, volunteers, suppliers, consultants and associates in the field.

  • The ECCD Technical Coordinator will report to the Technical Advisor - ECCD with
    a dotted line to the AAA Programme Manager. S/he will work closely with Traditional Authority Program Coordinators, Program Facilitators and Community volunteers, as well as with other Technical Coordinators and program team members from AAA, including government and implementing partners.

  • S/he will support the setup, launch and implementation of the Abwenzi A Ana program in Ntcheu.

    In order to be successful you will bring/have:

  • Degree level qualification in ECD, Education, Development Studies, Community/ Rural Development or the Social Sciences

  • At least 5 years' working experience 3 of which must be working in ECCD

  • Excellent Leadership skills

  • Training in Psychological First Aid with at least 2 years of work experience in ECCD

  • At least 5 years of practicing as trainer and coach in Healing and Education through Arts

  • Interest in working with and for children
    Practical experience in applying the Nurturing Care Framework

  • Monitoring, Evaluation and documentation skills; documentation of Most Significant Change Stories is an added advantage.

  • Good understanding of database development and maintenance.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

  • A good networker and able to effectively engage with Government and other stakeholders at community, district and national levels.

  • Familiarity with and ability to apply principles of the Community Action Cycle model for Community Mobilization is an added advantage.

  • Compliance with global Psychosocial Support principles and operational protocols.

  • Training and work experience in Special Needs is an added advantage.

  • Good computer skills are essential. Microsoft Word, Outlook, Power point, Teams and Excel are a minimum requirement.
