Save the Children has been operational in Kenya since the 1950s, providing support to children through developmental and humanitarian relief programmes delivered both directly and through local partners. Current programming focuses on child protection, child rights governance, education, health, HIV/AIDS, livelihoods, nutrition and WASH.

In 2012, as part of a global reorganization process, Save the Children combined the programmes of SC UK, SC Canada and SC Finland to create a single operation in Kenya. In Feb 2014, we completed a second transition, which saw us join forces with the British INGO, Merlin, and merge their health and nutrition programmes with our own.


Save the Children now has an operational presence in Bungoma, Dadaab Refugee Camp, Garissa, Mandera, Turkana and Wajir and a footprint in Kakamega, Kisumu, Migori and Kitui. In 2016, Save the Children established a new project office in Madagascar whose operations are managed by the Kenya CO .

In total, we employ around 250 staff in both countries and had an operating annual budget in 2017 of approximately US$22million.

Role Purpose: The Communications and Campaigns Manager will take lead in designing and delivering innovative communications and campaign strategies that inspire public support and actions, influence policy decisions and drive the agenda for children.

The function will also be responsible for maintaining a positive public image of Save the Children and support other members of the team to achieve brand consistency in line with organizational policy standards and donor requirements. She/He is also responsible for and managing the Country Office’s communications and media-related activities.

In addition, she/he will be responsible for building the capacity of staff of Save the Children Kenya country in identifying and undertaking campaign initiatives aimed at changing practices for betterment of children’s lives at community and national levels.

The Campaigns and Communication Manager will be responsible for managing and updating social media platforms and website, ensuring quality, accuracy of information in line with the organizational policies and procedures.

Experience and Skills

  • Degree in relevant field such as Mass/media Communication / International relations / Journalism
  • Five Years working experience in
    communications and documentation
  • Strong understanding of approaches for communicating information to a wide range of audiences including media relations
  • Advanced proficiency in graphic design and photography
  • Ability to multi task, work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines, responsive to external requests and strong team player.
  • Excellent communication skills with excellent command of the English language.
  • Ability to review and edit reports and products (in English) for dissemination and publications.
  • Experience identifying target audiences and devising promotional and campaign strategies to engage, inform and motivate current and potential partners
  • Willing and able to travel widely in country to support field teams

    Essential Skills and Behaviours

  • Proven experience in developing and implementing communications and campaign strategies
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Excellent photography skills (additional skills in videography is an added advantage)
  • Excellent skills in social media
  • Proven ability to communicate verbally with a wide range of actors and audiences.
  • Fluent in English and Kiswahili
