Role Purpose:

Under the guidance of the Child Protection Project Manager, the job holder is responsible for implementing and coordinating Child protection activities of the project (Irish Aid Gender Equality Project) in Daror Office. Prevent and respond to abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence affecting children.

Working closely with the woreda BoWCAs experts and SCI project Manager, He/she will be responsible to effectively coordinate, supervise and provide support to the community facilitators in the assigned woreda and follow-up the implementation of the project under the responsibility.

The project officer will participate in the preparation of the annual plan and work closely with the program coordinator, manager and partners. He/she will provide project progress reports to the Project Manager in the field office as per the government, SCI and donor requirements.

Will facilitate and participate in planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the project. In consultation with the Project Manager, the job holder will represent the project at Woreda-level external forums/meetings in his/her operation region as required. He/she will ensure strong linkage and integration of project activities with the government sector development plan.

Key Accountabilities

  • Under the guidance of the project coordinator and the process owner at the BoWCA’s, the job holder will facilitate the preparation and compilation of the detailed implementation plan (DIP) for each Woreda under the responsibility.

  • Coordinator regional project activities with support from the project coordinator

  • Regularly follow up and monitor the SRH project implementation in the intervention Woreda and ensure proper and efficient implementation of the project

  • Identify critical issues in the implementation of SRH project in the intervention of Woreda in consultation with the project coordinator and take the necessary actions to address problems and constraints

  • Monitor project performance, plan and facilitate regularly scheduled reviews of projects with partners and stakeholders and ensure proper documentation of best practices and lessons learned in the ASRH project implementation

  • Facilitate project-related assessments and evaluation through a participatory process, and working closely with partner

  • Initiate and facilitate changes and improvements on implementation approaches and strategies for the ASRH project

  • Ensure that strategies for phasing out are taken care of during implementation

  • Facilitate and ensure the involvement of children as primary stakeholders in all program work

  • Prepare regular progress reports of the project and submit to the BoWCA’s and the project coordinator as per the reporting schedule.

  • Provide feedback and share lessons learned from project implementations and financial reports

  • Liaises with the relevant government sector offices at the location as it relates to the projects under supervision;

  • Plan and submit activities implementation schedule with a budget to the field office and ensure that payments are effected timely.

  • Handle other activities assigned
    by the supervisor

  • Any other duties as assigned by the line manager and/or the SCI management

    Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Degree in an area of public health, social science or equivalent.

  • Recommended a minimum of 4 years’ experience in an NGO environment, preferably with experience in coordination and integration with stakeholders like government, community-based child wellbeing/SRH project coordination experience and experience of participating in coordination meetings

  • Knowledge and understanding of national Child wellbeing systems, and technical knowledge on child wellbeing monitoring and evaluation

  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching

  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures

  • Good knowledge of the regional context of the assignment and prior experience in working with pastoralist communities

  • Strong results orientation and ability to work under pressure

  • Experience of successfully implementing changes to processes to improve and monitor quality standards and impact achieved.

  • Experience of facilitating and shaping programs to deliver greater efficiency and effectiveness, s

  • Experience of solving complex issues through analysis, the definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy-in.

  • Fluency in local regional and Amharic language required,

  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written, required
