The Opportunity

Role Purpose

The Child Protection Office is responsible for leading the technical input into Child protection Programs in the refugee camp. This means that he/she is responsible for all the Child Protection program activities at camp level.

It is expected that the CP officer ensures good quality in the technical aspects of our program, as well as good quality of our staff, our cooperation with other partners and the refugee community.

This means active participation and coordination of activities on our CFC, outreach work in the Refugee community and to ensure that our staff and volunteers are technical updated by providing training and coaching.

The CP officer shall ensuring Family Tracing and Reunifications (FTR) of Unaccompanied Minor and Separated Children, care arrangement UAMs and other EVSs, psychosocial support for children in need, case management, awareness activities and make sure that the activities at the CFC is child friendly in all means.

This includes representing the SC Child Protection team/ program in interagency meetings at camp level and internal meetings at Dollo level, as well as working for empowering the existing community structure, the CP Staff and Refugee volunteers’ capacity building.

Key accountabilities

Coordination

  • Actively participate and contribute to Child protection Task force meeting and Child protection committee meeting
  • Coordinate and contribute to community-based child protection system and psychosocial support.
  • Establish of effective community based case management and care arrangement. For UAM and Separated children
  • Building and enriching effective child protection networks at all levels and connecting them as fully as possible through child protection committee and refugee central committee
  • Coordinate Family tracing and reunification activities (identification, interviewing, verification, interim care arrangement and family reunification) of UAM/SC in the camp
  • Ensure that child protection interventions are informed by and integrated with other core sectors of education, health, nutrition, food security and livelihoods.
  • In collaboration with procurement staffs and camp coordinator purchase the necessary materials and equipment’s for Child protection activities
  • Arrange proper referral systems like health issues, Disabilities, GBV with other IPS to provide the necessary assistance for EVC(Extremely Vulnerable Children)


    Staff Management

  • Prepare job description and assist R department during recruitment of CP assistant, supervisors and refugee volunteers
  • Organize proper orientation and pr service training for newly recruited staffs
  • Training for child protection assistants, supervisors and volunteers on child protection and child right concepts, FTR, Case management, Psychosocial support
  • Strengthening the existing Community structure, Child protection committee and care givers through training and awareness raising activities
  • Ensure that all children who arrive in our CFC are properly registered and have safe care as long as they stay there.

  • Ensure that CFS is properly staffed throughout opening hours. Ensure a system for correct attendance and absence for our volunteers and the rest of the staff. The CP officer is responsible for taking necessary disciplinary action when absence/ delayed attendance is reported.

  • Make sure that there is absolutely zero tolerance for corporal punishment or aggression from our
    volunteers, guards or other staff, directed to children.

    If this occurs, the CP officer must immediately reprimand the person and take appropriate disciplinary action. The CP officer shall also ensure that our zero tolerance for all forms of physical punishment / aggression, motorized vehicles, tobacco or consumption of chat at our CFS, is well ​​known to all who are committed by Save the Children.

    All such cases shall be reported to the CP officer who is responsible for taking disciplinary action, and submit a written report to the CP Program Manager at Dollo level.

    Program Management

  • Working for integrating child protection activities with education and other CFS activities in the camp
  • Prepare child protection implementation plan and monthly and weekly activity plan.

  • Prepare the necessary format for FTR activities and keep recordings of UAM and Separated Children in Interagency data base system

    Reporting and Monitoring

  • Preparing weekly updates and monthly reports for the Program Coordinator at camp level, the Program Manager on a frequent basis on project accomplishments and impact;

  • Developing an effective system of monitoring and evaluation for child protection and psychosocial interventions.

  • Perform any other relevant duties as required by the supervisor.

  • Any other duties as assigned by the line manager and/or the SCI management

    Job Requirements

    In order to be successful you will bring/have:

    Minimum Qualification and Experience

  • Preferred degree in social work, child care or related from a recognized college/ University

  • Working experience related to child protection or child care, preferred from an NGO/ emergency work

  • Special Training On child protection

  • Good command in written and spoken English and Somali language.

  • Good human relation skills.

  • Basic skills in computer applications
