Sandford international School Deputy Head - Director of Operations Jobs in Ethiopia



Job Purpose

Responsible for all duties that are not directly related to instruction and student achievement including assisting the Head of School in managing school activities; supervising of administrative support personnel; ensuring administrative and finance efficiencies, coordinating activities such as special events; transportation and building maintenance.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Supervise and evaluate all administrative staff at the site.

  • Manage all school scheduling, special events, field trips, cafeteria, transportation, maintenance, playgrounds and cleaning.

  • Manage community use of school site.

  • Oversee the work of finance and school budget.

  • Responsible for school safety plan: disaster preparation, fire drills, student, staff and public safety, and student health.

  • Maintain equipment, textbook and supply inventories.

  • Monitor student attendance and coordinate efforts to improve student attendance.

  • Coordinate with the Head of School to maintain a positive, safe learning environment for students by enforcing the school discipline plan.

  • Responsible for school public relations and communications plan: promote the school and district through positive relations with community, businesses, parents and students.

  • Maintain regular attendance.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Job Requirements

    Key Skills/Experience Required

  • BA or BS. degree required with course work in business administration, school business management, facilities management, ICT or health and safety related discipline desired.

  • Experience in public school or a business of similar size and complexity.

  • Good written and spoken English

  • Experience of working in a senior administration, premises & facilities,

  • ICT or health & safety role.

  • Experience of organising, leading and motivating staff.

  • Experience of assessing and negotiating service contracts.

  • Experience of developing and managing administration processes.

  • Experience of prioritising and managing a complex workload.

  • Experience of working in a school or other education environment.

  • Full working knowledge of relevant policies, codes of practice and
    legislation.

  • Understanding of child protection, safeguarding and bullying issues and able to demonstrate understanding of own accountabilities.

  • Excellent command of English (Oral and written)

  • Manage conflict.

    Team Leadership Management

  • Recruit, hire, lead and manage larger school operations team. Staff could include: office manager, office assistants, non-instructional aides, cleaners, maintenance staff, transportation staff, and facilities service team members.

  • Meet with school leadership team regularly to discuss goals, progress towards goals, trends and challenges, areas for growth, and action plans.

  • Create a culture of service and support developing team members to excel in their roles and ensuring the school maintains operational excellence.

    Culture of Achievement and Respect

  • Communicate respectfully and thoughtfully with parent remaining sensitive to different families’ cultures, values and needs.

  • Work with the school leadership team to implement the school’s mission; coordinate work and collaborate with the Sandford family.

  • Assist in creating a school culture with staff, parents and students focused on strong academic achievement, fairness, respect and high expectations for behaviour.

  • Ensure staff members understand the procedures and have the resources to operate effectively.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to continuously improve personal practice and achieve overall goals and mission of the school and the network.
