Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine. Samaritan’s Purse is privileged to be part of the humanitarian effort in Ethiopia and legally registered as foreign charity to work in Ethiopia since October 08, 2018.

The Information Officer (IO) will coordinate the design and development of proposals along with the development of partnership by building strong presence at the national level in the different clusters. The IO is expected to contribute substantively to the proposal development process and the production of winning proposals that contribute toward Samaritan’s Purse Ethiopia’s (SPE) strategic growth.

Key Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of Program Development Officer (PDO), the IO will undertake the following tasks:

  • Contribute toward the proposal development process from writing concept papers, proposal designs and budgets using best practices and lessons learned in coordination with appropriate program units. Thoroughly review solicitation documents and support the creation of comprehensive outlines, compliance matrices, and calendars to guide proposal preparation.

  • Organize and facilitate proposal planning meetings, and support the PDO in collecting and compiling proposals and reports.

  • Liaise with programs team, including monitoring and evaluation (M&E) to compile achievements for regular board reports, quarterly reports, and donor ministries mailings.

  • Support PDO in proposal production, paying close attention to copy edits, formats, and consistency of language prior to review.

  • Assist PDO with research and proposal and report compilation, as well as with strategic planning and the implementation, M&E, and reporting of newly funded programs.

  • Liaison with staff and partners to ensure adherence to deadlines and quality standards for deliverables

  • Follow policies and procedures of Samaritan’s Purse as set forth in the Policy Manual.

  • Maintain strong values of Samaritan’s Purse, in interactions with colleagues, vendors, charitable beneficiaries, and the general public.

  • Document program activities through photography utilizing professional DSLR camera gear and smartphone.

  • Design graphics artwork for all promotional and program items including banners, flyers, apparel, etc. in complete adherence to SP and donor branding guidelines.

  • Compile, write and design annual report in collaboration with the PDO, programs staff and Country Director.

  • Assist field staff in writing and editing success stories related to
    SP programs.

  • Collaborate with the Communications Department at IHQ by submitting success stories, up-to-date program information, and media content to be used on social media platforms that properly reflects the impact Samaritan’s Purse is having in Ethiopia.

  • Maintain SP Ethiopia digital media library and communications online Box account.

  • Additional duties as assigned.

    Job Requirements

    Education / Experience Needed

  • Graduate in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.

  • Relevant experience and training preferred, especially in the humanitarian sector.

  • Proficiency in writing and editing.

  • Proficiency in using Canon DSLR camera gear to capture photographs and video; proficiency in, or willingness to learn, capturing video clips and interviews utilizing a smartphone.

  • Proficiency in using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Light Room, etc.).

  • One year of college-level Biblical studies strongly preferred.

    Language

  • Proficient in reading and writing in English. Working knowledge of Amharic is required.
