Saferworld Programme Development Manager Jobs in Uganda;The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a Project Director to lead PlayMatters 3.0, a five‑year private foundation‑funded initiative in Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Uganda. This groundbreaking project expands quality educational opportunities for refugee and host‑community children. The Project Director will provide strategic leadership, coordinate across partners, and represent the project to donors, governments, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Provide strategic and technical direction to achieve project goals.

  • Oversee implementation of activities to maximize impact.

  • Develop, review, and monitor annual work and performance plans.

    Project Delivery & Compliance

  • Ensure activities align with performance framework and operational policies.

  • Oversee management of partners/subgrantees.

  • Provide financial and operations support, ensuring sound budgets and timely donor reporting.

    Donor & Stakeholder Relations

  • Report to donors through debriefings and formal reports.

  • Maintain active relationships with government officials, partners, and institutions.

  • Represent the project publicly and share achievements and lessons learned.

    Team Leadership

  • Create a work environment that promotes teamwork, trust, and respect.

  • Empower staff to take responsibility and foster collaboration.

    Requirements

  • Advanced degree in international development, humanitarian assistance, or related field.

  • Minimum 10 years’
    experience managing refugee or crisis‑affected programs.

  • Experience managing large‑scale, multi‑million‑dollar, multi‑country, multi‑partner projects.

  • Experience working in East Africa, particularly Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Uganda.

  • Demonstrated success in staff capacity‑building and gender‑sensitive programming.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Fluency in English required.

    Reporting Line

  • Reports to Regional Vice President, CRRD / Senior Director Education.

    Working Environment

  • Based in Kampala, Uganda, with regular travel to Ethiopia and South Sudan.

  • Comply with safeguarding, fiscal integrity, and anti‑fraud policies.
