Sacco Head of Finance Jobs in Kenya

To provide effective and efficient co-ordination and supervision of FOSA operations and financial management of the Society by implementing sound accounting and financial systems and internal control procedures in accordance with the financial policies, guidelines and procedures.



Also to provide relevant financial information on the Society’s performance on periodic basis, ensure compliance with current SASRA directives and prepare the Society’s annual accounts in compliance with the Companies Act, SACCO and SASRA guidelines.


Key Responsibilities


Leadership.

  • Lead the Finance team members to deliver all planned and agreed department and individual performance targets to ensure that the various sections are efficient and value adding to the Society.

    Financial Management.

  • Regulate, supervise and implement a timely, full and accurate set of accounting books of the Society reflecting all its activities in a manner commensurate with the relevant legislation and regulation and internal guidelines set from time to time by the Board of Directors.
  • Prepare timely financial statements and reports as required by all pertinent laws and regulations and deemed necessary and demanded from time to time by the Board of Directors.
  • Coordinate effective treasury management to ensure effective cash flow and cash flow analysis through weekly, monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Ensure efficient segmental reporting of cost centres in order to manage costs and measure performance.

    Budget Management

  • Prepare, control and monitor the Society’s revenue, capital and expenditure budget to facilitate translation into action of the strategic and operation plans of the Society.
  • Create and maintain strong financial discipline by planning, controlling and reporting on the Society financial performance to the Board of directors and the senior management team on a monthly, quarterly, half yearly and yearly basis.
  • Coordinate preparations of annual targets.

    FOSA Management.

  • Develop, formulate, recommend and coordinate policies, guidelines, procedures for FOSA operations to ensure efficient and economic operations are delivered to the customers.

    Compliance, Corporate Governance and Control.

  • Ensure compliance with financial procedures and policies of the Society
  • Implement sound corporate governance principles
  • Liaise with External Auditors and SASRA to ensure that all financial transactions are compliant with existing regulatory instruments and accounting standards.
  • Monitoring Fixed Assets Register, provision accounts, investment portfolio.
  • To alert the Board of Directors and to warn it regarding any irregularity, lack of compliance, lack of adherence, lacunas and problems whether actual or potential
    concerning the financial systems, the financial operations, the financing plans, the accounting, the audits, the budgets and any other matter of a financial nature or which could or does have a financial implication.
  • Monitor compliance with the statutory reports and returns (SASRA, KRA).
  • Liaise with the ICT department in the acquisition of the necessary software for the finance function.

    Managing Stakeholder Relationships.

  • Maintain a good working relationship with banks, financial institutions and capital markets with the aim of securing the funds necessary for the operations of the Society, the attainment of its development plans and its investments.

    Customer Service

  • Ensure the delivery of excellent internal and external customer service by all finance team members.

    Talent management and development.

  • Ensure development of all team members through performance feedback, recommending training where appropriate and coach and mentor individuals for growth.
  • Perform Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.


    Qualifications:

  • A minimum a Degree in Finance/Accounting, or related field with a professional accounting qualification CPA (K), ACCA or ACA etc.
  • Previous relevant work experience required.
  • At least 5 years working experience at managerial level; of which at least two must be at the level of Finance Manager or its equivalent.
  • A good knowledge and experience on all aspects of a SACCO, accounting and IFRS standards and legal points of view is required and it is essential that these can be communicated clearly in both verbal and written form.
