Job Description

  • Development of plans and procedures for water pollution control framework;

  • Development and implementation of field water pollution investigation plans and roadmap;

  • Conducting regular safety inspections of sites or facilities suspected to cause or having potential for water pollution to enforce compliance with laws, regulations and best management practices;

  • Development of project proposal related to pollution investigation Conducting baseline analysis of water pollutants;

  • Update and maintenance of inventories of pollutants and water pollution levels for concerned development sectors;

  • Contribution to development of plans, guidelines and procedures for water pollutants, record keeping, and emergency response;

  • Conducting field investigations and analysis related to water pollution prevention and management and provide recommendations;

  • Follow up the implementation status of recommendations from previous field investigation;

  • Preparation and update of national water pollution prevention/management strategies and action plans;

  • Development of emergency response procedures to spills or releases of pollutants into water bodies.

  • Working with the institution in charge of standards and other stakeholders to elaborate and enforce water quality related standards; Provision of technical guidance related to pollution control and remedial measures of polluted water bodies;

  • Review of studies from different economic sectors, government agencies, private sector, NGOs, etc in relation to water pollution aspects; Update and maintenance of physical and electronic files and reports
    regarding water pollution investigation activities and findings.

  • Advising RWB on appropriate equipment to acquire in order to complement and improve existing water pollution investigation efforts;

  • Collaboration with institutions in charge of environmental assessments, experts and developers to ensure that water pollution control is thoroughly considered in environmental assessments;

  • Regular updates of water portal tool box related to water pollution; Preparation and implementation of education and public awareness programs related to water pollution control/management;

  • Perform any other duties assigned by supervisors

    Job Profile

    Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Water Resources Management, Ecology and Natural Resource Management or Environmental Chemistry with three (3) years of relevant working experience; or

  • Master’s Degree in Environmental Science, Water Resources Management, Ecology and Natural Resource Management or Environmental Chemistry with one (1) year of relevant working experience.

  • Fluency in Kinyarwanda, English and/or French. Knowledge of all is an added advantage.
