Rural Electrification Agency Assistant Geographical Information System Officer - Jobs in Uganda



The Government of Uganda represented by the Rural Electrification Agency has allocated funds for the implementation of the project for bridging the gap between demand and supply through the accelerated rural electrification program.

Through this project, all unserved Sub-county headquarters and any local government administrative structure above the Sub-county will be connected to the national electricity grid.


This will go a long way in growing electricity consumption in readiness for the increased national generation capacity.
The three-year project is to be implemented concurrently in four regions of the country, with each region operating independently through respective regional administrative units.


The GIS Officer shall work under the supervision of the Senior GIS Specialist but work closely with the Project Management Unit under the stewardship of the Project Development and Management Department. He/she shall support the development of the engineering designs and shall maintain a real-time updated database of the project assets.


Responsibilities


  • Increase community awareness of REA projects, including connections initiatives and any other project interventions,
  • Enhance community participation during project implementation,
  • Mobilize and coordinate community involvement and support during project implementation,
  • Sensitize communities on the productive use of energy, energy efficiency including health and safety
  • Give marketing support to the service providers in the different service territories.
  • Assist the way-leaves office in addressing disputes over way-leaves rights, land ownership and tree cutting.
  • Organise events for the project including site handovers, groundbreaking ceremonies, commissioning ceremonies in liaison with the engineering and Corporate Communications team,
  • Promote and coordinate Corporate Social responsibility
  • Coordinate media engagements
    in consultation with the Corporate Communications Team
  • Work in partnership with the Consultants Social safeguards team to over the contractors’ environmental, social development and community engagement component.
  • Carryout any other duties as may be assigned by your supervisor


    Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications and/ or journalism, Development Communication, Social Works & Social Administration with at least 4 years of experience to a similar assignment.
  • Demonstrate communication abilities in English and other local languages in Uganda
  • Good command of IT application such as MS-office and other basic computer skills.
  • Master’s degree in the field of social sciences will be an added advantage
  • A relevant Postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
