RTI anticipates staffing the following job position for TUSOME, a national level activity with goal of improving the Grade 1, 2 and 3 quality of instruction and student outcomes in Kiswahili and English.

Tusome provides pupils with literacy books and teachers with training, ongoing support, and teacher guides that enable them to improve their daily instructional practice.

The Tusome activity, funded by USAID, also uses ICT interventions including tablets as tools for Curriculum Support Officers (CSOs) and coaches.

This activity has allowed Tusome to design materials that have been implemented on tablets to help CSOs and coaches, support learning gains efficiently and at scale.

On Special Needs Education (SNE), Tusome supports all schools and units for learners with Hearing Impairment (HI) and those with Visual Impairment (VI).

Special Needs Education Coordinator (SNE Coordinator)

The SNE Coordinator is responsible for day to day implementation of Tusome SNE activities, through the TSC Curriculum Support Officers (CSOs) within their area of jurisdiction.

She/he will report to the Tusome Senior Education Programs Specialist on the progress of Tusome SNE activities and specifically will provide support to the CSOs, head teachers and teachers on Tusome SNE implementation.

She/he will also provide input into the development and revision

of teaching and learning materials including teacher’s guides and pupil’s books for learners with special needs. She/he shall be involved on daily classroom observation support to the CSOs.

Required Qualifications and Experience:
  • At least a Bachelor degree, preferably in project management, education or social sciences with specialization in SNE.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience of working within the education and social development sectors.
  • Proven knowledge and experience working with the children with disabilities.
  • S/he need to demonstrate understanding of the Kenyan Education sector and knowledge on disability rights and inclusion practices.
  • Prior experience and familiarity with donor project management policies, procedure and reporting requirements, particularly USAID.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication and interpersonal skills demonstrated by ability to interact professionally with culturally and linguistically diverse staff, clients and consultants.
  • Demonstrated ability to set and deliver on priorities.
