Position Summary

  • The Information Officer will perform IT related duties in support of the Ethiopia Act to End NTDs Program and at times Power Africa project.

    She/he will be responsible for supporting PCs (Windows 7, Windows 10, Mac OS/ Microsoft Office 2013/ Office 2016) and Windows 2008 / 2012 server, ensuring proper maintenance and backups, setting up, maintaining, and supporting the IT and network infrastructure including additional project offices. Assist with technical specifications, budget, and forecast the IT requirements for the offices and coordinate the procurement for the same, maintain proper inventory of IT equipment for the project offices, provide first tier support and end user training on hardware and software usage, perform user acceptance testing and deployment support, among other tasks.

  • The IT person needs to be flexible and available to staff member who are working virtually due to COVID-19.

    Responsibilities

    Supporting PCs (Windows 7, Windows 10, Mac OS/ Microsoft Office 2013 / 2016):

  • Ensure Windows and other software is maintained and that patches are promptly applied on computers in the project offices.

  • Ensure anti-virus software is kept current.

  • Ensure information is backed up and maintained in accordance with RTI policies and procedures.

  • Provide user support on hardware, networking and software related issues.

  • Configure and troubleshoot laptops / desktops / printers/ scanners.

  • Supporting the Windows 2008 /2012 Server:
    Ensuring backup drives are rotated weekly and logs are updated.

  • Ensure anti-virus software is kept current.

  • Monitor the server daily to ensure smooth running.

  • Maintain network infrastructure including Internet connections, perimeter equipment, network switches, wireless access points, printers, Cisco IP phones etc.

  • Setting up, maintaining, and supporting the IT infrastructure for additional project offices as they are established.

  • Assist with technical specifications, budget, and forecast the IT requirements for the offices and coordinate the procurement for the same.

  • Supervise the performance of any local IT firms or staff hired to support the project offices.

  • Follow up on warranty claims for IT equipment.

  • Maintain proper inventory
    of IT equipment for the project offices.

  • Ensure compliance with RTI Information Security policies, procedures and standards and train other project staff on IT policy

  • Training - Provide training on hardware and software usage to end users.

    Job Requirements

    Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science and 3 years of relevant experience or any other related Degree and 6 years of relevant experience in IT support.

    Skills and Abilities

  • Management Information Systems (MIS) trainings preferred

  • Those with user training experience highly
    desired

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 2013 /2016 and Windows 7/Windows 10 in a domain environment

  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications and services

  • Ability to troubleshoot common hardware, software and network issues

  • Ability to meet deadlines and adjust to fast changing priorities

  • Ability to follow instructions and work autonomously, but also able to recognize when you are in over your head and ask for assistance.

  • Ability to quickly gain new skills and
  • knowledge when faced with new challenges

  • Aware of the ethical and professional standards of IT personnel

  • Pays attention to detail

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to ask appropriate, relevant questions and get information in order to diagnose computer problems and discern what level of support is needed when a problem is presented.

  • Able to show respect to all cultures and work in a culturally diverse environment
