  • The Maintained Epidemic Control of HIV (MECH) Project aims to reduce HIV mortality, morbidity and transmission by achieving the UNAIDS and PEPFAR goal of 95/95/95 HIV treatment coverage by providing comprehensive HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment maintenance services in Luapula, Northern and Muchinga provinces of Zambia.

  • The MECH project will work closely with and in support of the Ministry of Health

    Job Responsibilities

    • Support community awareness and perform pre counselling post and Adherence counselling

    • Providing Pre- and Post-Counselling

    • Plan HTS activities focused at achieving HTS indicators

    • Conducting health education to HIV\AIDS\TB patients

    • Identifying problems and setting priorities with the patient

    • Sharing and distribution of IEC materials both at facility and community.

    • Case Finding- Devise interventions to find Men, Pediatrics and adolescents.

    • Counselling of clients

    • Risk Assessment and IPV screening

    • Assist clients in making informed decisions.

    • Reassuring patients about confidentiality when doing pre-and Post-Counselling.

    • To provide ongoing appropriate, supportive counselling to HIV, ART, and TB patients, with appropriate referral to other supportive services

    • Detect and
    report barriers to adherence.

    • To provide education and information on HIV / STI / TB and ART related issues in the community.

    • Built rapport between patients and workplace.

    • Build rapport with Community Leadership, clients, and the health facility.

    • Detect and report barriers to adherence.

    • Participate in community awareness and education initiatives and be a link between, family, community, client, and the clinic.

    • Provide daily onsite hands on Technical Supportive Supervision and Mentorship to Lay counsellors supported by the project.

    • To ensure that all Lay counsellors are well trained in high impact HTS interventions.

    • To enforce the principles of HTS (5Cs)

    • Ensure that all the clients who are diagnosed positive and linked to treatment, care, and support services.

    • Facilitate the testing of all HIV exposed babies born from HIV positive mothers and linking them to care and treatment

    • In collaboration with DECs and lay counsellors, create viral load demand among clients who are due for VL assessment.

    • Submit daily high impact HTS intervention report to the regional HTS coordinator through provincial HTS coordinators.

    • Ensure availability of SOPs in HTS in all the project supported facilities.
