Resident Coordinator System Regional Director Jobs in Ethiopia; The Regional Director is a team and thought leader, convenor, facilitator, broker of partnerships, and strategic analyst on sustainable development.The role is outward-facing, providing regional, sub-regional, and country-level strategic support to Resident Coordinators (RCs), supported by a regional team.
ResponsibilitiesRegional Sustainable Development Thought Leadership, Partnerships and Convening:
Lead regional thought leadership on SDG acceleration issues, convening regional priorities to drive impact
Provide strategic direction in collaboration with Secretariat entities, Regional Economic Commissions, IFIs, and UN Agencies/Funds/Programmes
Strengthen collaboration with regional mechanisms and sub-regional bodies; leverage financing, digital tools, and multi-stakeholder platforms
Lead development of regional/multi-country partnerships to deliver on identified priorities
Integrate development approaches considering conflict, crises, prevention, peacebuilding, human rights, and humanitarian needs
Influence stakeholders using foresight, behavioral science, and data/evidence to promote innovation and SDG acceleration
Coordinate communications and strategic messaging for RC system at regional level, including countering misinformation
Support RC efforts for joint resource mobilization, pooled funds, and links to global/regional funding mechanisms
Work with Strategic Partnerships Division to translate opportunities into co-created initiatives leveraging digital innovation
Support Chair of Regional UNSDG in leadership and quality assurance for UNSDCFs and joint programmes
Provide strategic guidance to RCs and UNCTs to ensure quality support to Member States in implementing the 2030 Agenda
Report on regional results and oversee backstopping support to RCs, UNCTs, and RCOs
Track and report on UN reform and efficiency initiatives in the region
Facilitate relationships with host governments, donors, and counterparts; represent the Organization at meetings and conferences
Corporate Management and People Leadership:
Direct and manage the UNDCO Regional Office, including strategy, work programme, budgets, and reporting
Oversee activities ensuring timely delivery and coordination with UN system organizations and partners
Ensure delivery against results frameworks and efficiency targets; drive digital transformation and process simplification
Support day-to-day operations of RC system in the region; approve RC travel/missions; manage dispute resolution and troubleshooting
Integrate UN 2.0 competencies (foresight, behavioral science, data, digital innovation) into regional and country-level work
Lead integration of risk management and foresight into regional operations
Identify and advocate for surge support across countries; facilitate cross-regional surge mechanisms
Promote collaborative leadership behaviors and matrix management across functions and regions
Contribute to senior leadership talent identification and workforce planning; support RC and RCO recruitment
Support performance management of RCs and Heads of RCOs
Ensure compliance with UN policies on gender equality, disability, youth inclusion, staff well-being, and duty of care
Support RCs, UNCTs, and RCOs on business innovations
Contribute to UNDCO strategies and policies; participate in committees and advisory roles
Coordinate preparation of regional reports for interagency and intergovernmental bodies (UNSDG, CEB, ECOSOC, GA, etc.)
Oversee recruitment of staff for Regional Office, ensuring geographical and gender balance; manage and train staff; foster teamwork
Perform other related duties as requested by UNDCO senior management

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics, or related field required
First-level degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted
Completion of degree/non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science an advantage
Work Experience
Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible experience in project/programme management, administration, or related area required
At least 2 years of experience in data analytics desirable
Languages
Fluency in English or French required
Knowledge of the other desirable
