About the Africa-Asia Region:

RI currently operates in nine countries in the Africa/Asia region: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Somalia, South Sudan, and Sudan, with a focus on the four RI sector pillars: Health, WASH, Education and Economic Opportunity. RI currently employs more than 3,000 staff (direct and indirect) in the Africa/Asia region and implements a range of emergency response and development programs valued at approximately $50 million USD on an annual basis.

Position Summary:

As part of the Regional Programs Team within the Regional Support Office (RSO) for RI’s Africa & Asia Region, the Communications Intern will serve as a critical support function for the Africa/Asia Regional Program Team. Under the supervision of the Regional Program Assistant (RPA), the Communications’ Intern will ensure quality and adequate information management within Africa/Asia region.

She/he will ensure that information and data from the RI country offices within the region is captured, documented, analyzed and reported in a results-based and timely manner for donors and internal purposes, as well as ad-hoc assistance to the programs team in other tasks as needed.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

Communications Support

  • Ensure effective communications, visibility and knowledge management within RI

  • Support country offices in developing success stories and communication materials for their projects

  • Maintain RI's SharePoint for Africa and Asia up to date by posting the latest news from COs and RSO, including new programs, sectors, key donors’ visits, updates from Senior Management Team
    (SMT), etc.

  • Support RPA in updating the countries' profiles and project summaries

  • Support RPD and RPA to harmonize communications materials developed for Country offices in Africa/Asia region with the Middle East Region

  • Dynamically and actively interact with country offices’ focal points to gather information and results related to programming, and prepare relevant communication materials such as success stories, beneficiary profiles, country snapshots, content for the RI Intranet,

  • Serve as the Asia/Africa regional lead for Intranet content upload and maintenance
    Safeguarding

  • Uphold and promote RI’s commitment to ensuring the safeguarding and safety of the vulnerable communities we serve.

  • Consistent with RI’s safeguarding and protection policies, ensure all people who come into contact with Relief International are as safe as possible.

    Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, social sciences or a related field in alignment with the relief and development context

  • Prior communication experience of at least 1 year in the social development and/or humanitarian sector, including non-government organizations, government development agencies or other internships, is an asset

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, and exercise sound judgment and discipline

  • Strong independent task management skills and techniques, ability to prioritize and organize own workload

  • Comfortable absorbing workload under stress periods

  • Superior oral and written communication skills in English, including consensus building and triangulation of information from multiple stakeholders

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team with a high degree of drive, initiative and autonomy

  • Willingness to accept and absorb direct critique and participate in two-way dialogue with peers and managers to improve work quality and results

  • Proven high level of computer literacy and advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills (with emphasis on Word, Excel, PowerPoint
