  • The Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) is an Intergovernmental organisation which provides services in surveying, mapping, remote sensing, GIS and ICT to its member States, partners and clients. It currently has twenty member States in the Eastern and Southern Africa Region.

  • Our Mission is to promote sustainable development in the member States through generation, application and dissemination of geo-information and allied ICT services, products and services.

  • The Centre invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill Part Time Lecturer positions for its KNEC Diploma and Certificate courses in the following areas: Geospatial Analysis, Geomatics, Geomatic Engineering, Geospatial Engineering, Geodesy, Land Survey, Engineering Survey, Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing, Cartography, Computer Skills /ICT/ programming/Computer Graphics, Languages, Communication Skills, Geography, GIS, Mathematics, Social Studies, Technical Drawing, Law, Business Studies/ Entrepreneurship/ Management, Physics, Life skills, Guidance and Counseling.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The successful candidates will undertake the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop and review curricula in place to ensure quality and cater for advancement in the
    body of knowledge so as to meet market needs;

  • Prepare teaching and instructional materials for students in accordance with the syllabus
    to maintain RCMRD standards and uniformity and ensure effective delivery of the teaching process;

  • Prepare lectures for systematic and effective delivery of content;

  • Deliver the curricula through innovative methods to transfer knowledge and skills;

  • Set, moderate, administer, mark, process, compile and report exams as per the set curricula, and to evaluate acquisition of knowledge and ensure quality;

  • Participate in attachments, placements and academic trips, so as to equip students with
    on-the-job skills;

  • Monitor students’ performance, progress and produce timely feedback so as to seek ways
    to improve performance and content retention;

  • Provide academic advice and mentor students;

  • Monitor training progress within the term and across various terms for different classes covering the same curriculum;

  • Evaluate training programmes;

  • Conduct extra curricula activities, and

  • Promote professional and ethical code of
    conduct within the Centre by ensuring adherence to policies and regulations in class attendance and examinations discipline.

    Academic Qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience required

    The successful candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • First degree in a relevant field, plus an understanding of the current geoinformation
    trends for those interested in geoinformation related teaching. Post graduate qualification
    will be an added advantage. Technicians, physical education trainers, life skills coach and
    field assistants must have recognised certification and experience in their line if work;

  • A certificate in Pedagogy, Training of Trainers or its equivalent.

  • At least Three (3) years’ experience in teaching;

  • For lecturers in Business Studies, in addition to a Degree in Business, possession of a
    CPA qualification and training experience in KASNEB courses will be an added advantage;

  • Possession of a Diploma in Building/ Construction Technology in the case of lecturers in Technical Drawing and a minimum of Three (3) Experience;

  • Possession of a Diploma in a relevant discipline for lecturers in Life Skills, Guidance and Counseling;

  • Excellent one-on-one, group presentation and facilitation skills;

  • Ability to use a variety of learning/training concepts and principles;

  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills and
    relationship building;

  • Proficiency in basic MS Office Packages;

  • A result oriented individual and a team player of high integrity, with strong interpersonal skills, and

  • Research skills, analytical and creative problem-solving skills are highly desirable.
