Reeds Africa Consult School Librarian Jobs in Kenya
Overview
Manage school library resources, ensure effective organization and accessibility of books and learning materials, and promote reading, research and independent learning among learners and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the day-to-day operations of the school library.
Catalogue, classify, label and organize books and other learning resources systematically.
Maintain accurate records of library materials, borrowing activities, returns and overdue items.
Assist learners and teachers in locating appropriate books and learning resources.
Promote a reading culture through reading programmes, book clubs and literacy initiatives.
Ensure library materials are properly handled, stored and maintained.
Monitor library inventory and recommend acquisition of new books and learning resources.
Maintain a clean, quiet, safe and conducive library environment.
Support learners in developing research, information literacy and independent learning skills.
Prepare regular reports on library usage, inventory and resource requirements.
Ensure compliance with school policies and library procedures.
Perform any other duties assigned by school management.
Requirements
Diploma or Degree in Library and Information Science, Library Studies, Records Management or a related field.
Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience.
Previous experience working in
a school library or similar educational environment will be an added advantage.
Proficiency in digital literacy, including computers, digital library systems and online research tools.
Good knowledge of library cataloguing, classification and information management practices.
Strong organizational, record-keeping and administrative skills.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively with learners of different age groups and collaborate with teachers.
Responsible, patient, trustworthy, detail-oriented and professional.
Demonstrated passion for reading, learning and learner development.
Must possess a valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
