  • Our client is a social enterprise that uses the power of mobility as a response to overcoming barriers posed by long distances and systemic mobility challenges in developing countries. Their product ensures that mobility in remote areas is no longer a barrier to education, health services, and economic opportunity. They have supported programs in 20 developing countries.

    Job Purpose:

  • The COO is responsible for ensuring and improving the performance, productivity, efficiency and profitability of departmental and organizational operations through the provision of effective methods and strategies. Working with the management team, the COO will contribute to the development and implementation of organizational strategies, policies and practices within the Kenyan office.

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Logistics – Coordinate Coordination, assembly and shipping of materials and packages, manage and monitor the ordering cycle, importation, assembly and distribution and parts to ensure optimum levels and processes are maintained in-country.

  • Commercially savvy– Review monthly financial close data in liaison with the Finance team.
  • Utilizing financial data to improve profitability, and creating strategic partnerships to improve distribution. Prepare and control operational budgets, managing inventory and plan effective strategies for the financial well-being of the company.

  • Strategic Partnerships – Improve processes and policies in support of organizational goals. Formulate and implement departmental and organizational policies and procedures to maximize output. Monitor adherence to rules, regulations and procedures.

  • Human Resources – Plan the use of human resources. Organize recruitment and placement of required staff. Establish organizational structures. Delegate tasks and accountabilities. Establish work schedules. Supervise staff. Monitor and evaluate performance.

  • Production – Coordinate and monitor the work of production, assembly, warehousing, pricing and distribution and parts. Monitor performance and implement improvements in the assembly process.

  • Ensure quality of products. Manage quality and quantity of employee productivity. Manage the maintenance of equipment and machinery. Provide technical support where necessary.

  • Communication – Monitor, manage and improve the
    efficiency of IT, and ensure the organisation is using the most cost-effective equipment and technology

  • Sales, Marketing and Customer Service – Manage customer support. Plan and support sales and marketing activities, with emphasis on the growth of spare part sales and provision of after-sales service.

  • Strategic Input – Liaison with top management to assist in the development of strategic plans for operational efficiency, liaising with local government, MFIs and related groups. Implement and manage operational plans to ensure the achievement of organisational objectives.

    Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in Business Administration or equivalent. MBA is desirable.

  • 8+ years’ experience in an operational or commercial level for a social enterprise is desired.

  • Strong Project management experience, organizational effectiveness and operations management.

  • Knowledge of business and management principles and practices

  • Information technology skills

    Knowledge Required:

  • Strong technical understanding of Operations Management including policies, procedures and financial planning

  • Ability to inspire a team to deliver impact

  • Commercial awareness for social enterprises

  • Strong communication and management skills

  • Highest level of integrity to ensure transparency

  • Able to juggle several assignments and able to have general oversight over multiple operations
