General Position Summary

  • The mechanic will be responsible for servicing Rakai Health Sciences Program fleet.

  • The Mechanic will carry out repairs, preventative and predictive maintenance on all program fleet.

  • In addition, the mechanic will be responsible for completing daily maintenance and repair logs, maintaining and securing work tools, examining vehicles/plant to determine extent of damage or malfunctions and performing routine and scheduled maintenance services for all fleet equipment.

    Jobs Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance, servicing, inspections and repair of organizational vehicles, including motorcycles, generators and related equipment

  • Recover and maintain broken down vehicles/generator using proper techniques to minimize the risk of additional damage and accident.

  • Report on works carried out, including the consumption of spare parts, lubricants, and other items used in the repair of vehicles/generators including time starting and completion of work; Report any workmanship failure that occurred during repairs.

  • Keep inventory and in good order all repair tools and equipment

  • Prepare and submit periodic reports as per approved mechanical checklists

  • Assist in inspecting vehicles or generators for mechanical fitness and performing follow up repairs

  • Support the transport coordinator in planning and budgeting relevant spare parts and vehicle repair supplies informed by technical assessment

  • Perform other related duties as
    required

    Knowledge and Experience

  • A minimum of a level II certificate in motor vehicle mechanics from a reputable institution

  • Must have an ordinary level certificate (Uganda Certificate of Education)

  • A valid driving license for light and commercial vehicles with a clean driving record is required

  • At least two (2) years’ experience in commercial and light vehicle repair that includes mechanical, electronics from reputable organization

  • Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of how vehicles work and how various parts of the vehicle interact with each other

  • Ability to deliver accurate results in a timely manner and in an environment with multiple and challenging tasks

  • Good knowledge of traffic rules and regulations

  • Report writing skills are an added advantage
