Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining & Mineral Processing, Analytical Chemistry or Chemical Engineering from a university recognized in Kenya.

  • Professional registration with a relevant engineering body (e.g., Engineers Registration Board).

  • Proficiency in computer‑aided design (CAD), metallurgical software and data analysis.

    Job Summary

    This is the entry and training grade for this cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a senior officer.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure metal components meet engineering specifications (tensile strength, hardness, toughness).

  • Investigate root causes of metal failure, corrosion or fatigue in machinery and infrastructure.

  • Monitor and improve extractive metallurgy processes (pyrometallurgy/hydrometallurgy) and heat treatment procedures.

  • Prepare detailed reports on experimental results, material properties and recommendations for material selection.

  • Mentor or supervise laboratory technicians and junior metallurgists.
