PSC Senior Principal Engineer (Structural) Jobs in Kenya
Qualifications for appointment
Served for a cumulative service period of twelve (12) years, three (3) of which must have been in the grade of Principal Engineer (Structural), CSG 7 or in a comparable and relevant position in the public service
Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in Civil Engineering, Civil and Structural Engineering or its equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya
Registered by Engineers Board of Kenya as a Professional Engineer
Registered as a Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (MIEK)
Valid annual practicing license from the Engineers Board of Kenya
Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results
Duties and responsibilities
Develop, implement and review policies, strategies, standards, guidelines, procedures and frameworks pertaining to construction and maintenance of structural and civil works in government buildings and other public works including marine and footbridges
Coordinate planning, designing and supervision of construction, maintenance, rehabilitation and renovation of structural, civil and other public works and projects
Coordinate planning, designing and supervising construction of structures to protect public land and properties from river flooding and erosion
Coordinate consultancy services for transmission masts and tower structures for government communication and security installations
Coordinate implementation of project designs and site instructions related to construction and maintenance of structural, civil and other public works and projects
Coordinate supervision and inspection of civil and structural works and projects for compliance with designs, specifications, standards and safety regulations
Interpret engineers’ designs, drawings and specifications for structural, civil and other public works and projects
Provide consultancy, capacity building, technical support and advisory services to ministries, departments, counties and agencies (MDAs) on matters pertaining to construction and maintenance of structural, civil and other public works including marine and footbridges
Review consultants’ and contractors’ plans and designs on construction and maintenance of structural, civil and other public works for necessary approval
Prepare contract drawings, specifications and contract documents for tendering of construction and maintenance of structural, civil and other public works and projects
Conduct feasibility studies and environmental social impact assessments to determine viability for construction of structural, civil and other public works
Coordinate structural integrity surveys for quality control and compliance
Monitor and evaluate construction and maintenance of structural, civil and other works and projects
Update information pertaining to structural, civil and other public works and inventory
Identify areas of research and prepare concept notes and proposals
Design, implement and review relevant professional development, graduate internship and industrial attachment programmes in consultation with other key stakeholders
Prepare reports on structural engineering works
Prepare budgets for structural, civil and other public works
Prepare strategic/work plans and set targets
Coach and mentor staff
