PSC Senior Principal Engineer (Materials/Roads) Jobs in Kenya
Qualifications for appointment
Cumulative service period of twelve (12) years, three (3) of which must have been in the grade of Principal Engineer (Materials), CSG 7 or in a comparable and relevant position in the wider public service
Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in Engineering, Civil and Structural Engineering or its equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya
Registered by Engineers Board of Kenya as a Professional Engineer
Registered as a Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (MIEK)
Valid annual practicing license from the Engineers Board of Kenya
Demonstrated high degree of professional competence and administrative capability as reflected in work performance and results
Duties and responsibilities
Develop and implement policies, strategies, standards, manuals, guidelines, procedures and frameworks pertaining to testing and research on roads and other construction materials and delivery methods, ensuring compliance
Coordinate establishment, expansion and maintenance of materials testing and investigations laboratories and advise on their usage
Coordinate prospection, mapping and testing of roads and other materials
Coordinate physical and non-destructive testing of highways and other structures
Coordinate planning, designing and supervising construction and maintenance of pavement structures for roads and other infrastructure
Review, update and maintain road design manuals and construction standards
Develop specifications for civil engineering materials and laboratory equipment for use in testing, construction control and performance monitoring
Review and recommend approval of materials engineering design reports and drawings
Review and recommend approval of engineering consultants’ designs
Review research proposals and reports on materials and project delivery methods
Coordinate geotechnical and structural integrity investigations
Review quality assurance systems for quality control during material testing, pavement and structures construction
Coordinate evaluation and performance monitoring of road pavements
Review and approve engineering consultants’ designs, pavement certificates and fee notes submitted by consultants and contractors
Review tender documents and estimates for general procurement and road works
Provide consultancy, capacity building and technical support to ministries, departments, counties and agencies (MDAs) on roads and other construction materials testing, research and delivery methods
Prepare and implement disposal plans for laboratory waste in liaison with relevant government agencies
Maintain up-to-date information, laboratory records, test reports, stores and inventory pertaining to road and other construction materials testing, research and inventory
Design and implement professional development, graduate internship and industrial attachment programs in consultation with stakeholders
Prepare progress reports on road and other construction materials testing and research
Prepare strategic/work plans
Coach and mentor staff
