PSC Principal Mechanical Engineer (Mechanical & Transport) Jobs in Kenya
Qualifications for appointment
Cumulative service period of nine (9) years, three (3) of which must have been in the grade of Senior Mechanical Engineer (Mechanical and Transport), CSG 8 or in a comparable and relevant position in the public service
Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical and Production Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering or its equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya
Registered by Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) as a Professional Engineer
Registered as a Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (MIEK)
Valid annual practicing license from the Engineers Board of Kenya
Demonstrated high degree of professional competence and administrative capability as reflected in work performance and results
Duties and responsibilities
Plan and design technical works/installations, vehicles, equipment, plant machinery and workshops
Coordinate activities in workshops and ensure prudent utilization of resources
Conduct technical monitoring and evaluation of projects pertaining to mechanical engineering services (mechanical and transport)
Identify vehicles, plants and mechanical equipment for relocation, replacement, overhaul and disposal
Coordinate preparation of project costing and budgets for mechanical engineering (mechanical and transport) services
Prepare specifications for procurement of vehicles, plant and mechanical equipment
Take part in preparation and implementation of the Mechanical and Transport Fund (MTF) budgets
Provide updates on charges and lease rates
Coordinate testing, valuation and inspection of vehicles, plant and equipment
Coordinate examination and trade tests for drivers and plant operators
Prepare general layout drawings and shop flow organization of workshops
Build up and maintain a set of standard specifications for types of vehicles, plant and equipment
Coordinate activities in the central workshop including repairs of manufacturing and production machines, plant and equipment, and analyze progress and output reports
Monitor usage of government vehicles, plants, machines and resources in liaison with regional mechanical engineers
Carry out research in emerging trends and technologies in mechanical engineering services (mechanical and transport)
Keep up-to-date information and records on vehicles, plants and equipment throughout their life cycle and inventory
Prepare strategic/work plans, budgets and set targets
Guide and counsel staff
