PSC Principal Engineer (Materials/Roads) Jobs in Kenya
Qualifications for appointment
Cumulative service period of nine (9) years, three (3) of which must have been in the grade of Senior Engineer (Materials), CSG 8 or in a comparable and relevant position in the public service
Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering, Civil and Structural Engineering or its equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya
Registered by Engineers Board of Kenya as a Professional Engineer
Registered as a Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (MIEK)
Valid annual practicing license from the Engineers Board of Kenya
Show merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results
Duties and responsibilities
At Headquarters
Review designs and tender documents for road and other rehabilitation, repair and maintenance works
Prepare annual work plans and programmes
Develop road design manuals and construction standards
Supervise construction, repair and maintenance of roads
Develop and review specifications for civil engineering materials and laboratory equipment for testing, construction control and performance monitoring
Develop engineering materials design reports and drawings
Review engineering consultants’ designs
Plan and coordinate pavement designs
Provide consultancy, capacity building, technical support and advisory services to ministries, departments, counties and agencies (MDAs) on material engineering
Design quality assurance systems for quality control during material testing, pavements and structures construction
Supervise pavement performance monitoring and evaluation and advise on remedial measures
Review and recommend approval of specifications for pavement and structures repair and maintenance
Develop and evaluate methodologies for investigating and evaluating structural integrity of structures
Conduct research and prepare reports on new and alternative construction materials and delivery methods
Supervise materials and geotechnical investigations and structural foundation design
Review final tender documents and develop draft engineers’ estimates for construction, rehabilitation and maintenance works
Guide and counsel staff
At Regional Office
Supervise material testing and research within the region
Approve mix designs for concrete, gravel and bitumen
Issue materials test reports on behalf of the Chief Engineer
Establish quality assurance systems for quality control during material testing and pavements and structures construction
Provide consultancy, capacity building, technical support and advisory services to ministries, departments, counties and agencies (MDAs) on materials engineering
Develop and evaluate specifications for materials and laboratory equipment for construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of paved and unpaved roads
Implement environmental, occupational safety and health regulations in the regions
Guide and counsel staff
