PSC Deputy Director, Peace Building and Conflict Management Jobs in Kenya
Qualifications for appointment
Cumulative service period of twelve (12) years, three (3) of which must be in the grade of Assistant Director Peace Building and Conflict Management, CSG 7 or in a comparable and relevant position in the public service
Bachelor’s degree in Peace and Conflict Management, Peace and Conflict Studies, Political Science, Anthropology, Sociology, Social Work, Law, Diplomacy and International Relations, Conflict Resolution and Humanitarian Assistance Studies, Project Management, Strategic Studies, Psychology, Criminology, Police and Military Science or Gender and Development from a university recognized in Kenya
Demonstrated high degree of professional competence and administrative capability required for effective planning, direction, control and coordination of the Peace Building and Conflict Management function
Duties and responsibilities
At Peace Building Division
Formulate, interpret and review policies, strategies, programs, laws, regulations, standards, guidelines and mechanisms governing peace building in liaison with other stakeholders
Provide secretariat to the National Steering Committee on Peace Building
Mobilize resources and foster collaboration and partnerships in support of peace building programmes
Facilitate research on peace building and conflict management
Coordinate domestication and implementation of regional protocols, agreements, mechanisms on peace building including IGAD-CEWARN, EAC Peace and Security Protocol (CPMR/EACWARN), and international treaties such as UNSCR 1325, 1820, 1888, 1889, 1960
Facilitate establishment of the National Conflict Early Warning and Early Response System and the National Information Resource Centre on peace building
Promote conflict prevention, management, resolution, national healing and reconciliation processes
Monitor and evaluate peace building programmes
Provide technical advice on peace building
Advise on National Peace Awards
Facilitate commemoration of National and International peace events
Plan, budget, build capacity and manage performance of staff
At Small Arms Control Division
Formulate, interpret and review policies, strategies and programs on small arms control
Ensure implementation and review of laws, regulations, standards, guidelines and mechanisms governing small arms control in liaison with other stakeholders
Coordinate research, mobilize resources and foster collaboration and partnerships in support of small arms control programmes
Initiate domestication of international instruments such as the 2001 UN Programme of Action (UNPoA), the 2013 Arms Treaty, the 2001 UN Protocol against illicit manufacture and trafficking in firearms, and various regional declarations and protocols
Monitor and evaluate small arms control programmes
Provide technical advice on small arms control
Coordinate establishment of a national framework on small arms education and awareness
Facilitate commemoration of National and International events on small arms control
Provide secretariat to the Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms
Plan, budget, build capacity and manage performance of staff
