PSC Deputy Director, Livestock Production Jobs in Kenya



Qualifications for appointment

  • Cumulative service period of twelve (12) years, three (3) of which must have been in the grade of Assistant Director, Livestock Production, CSG 7 or in a comparable and relevant position in the public service

  • Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Animal Production, Agriculture, Apiculture, Food Science and Technology, Agribusiness, Range Management, Natural Resource Management, Livestock/Agricultural Economics, Dairy Technology or Agricultural Education and Extension from a university recognized in Kenya

  • Shown outstanding administrative capability and professional competence required in managing livestock production services

    Duties and responsibilities

  • Coordinate extension activities including field days, agricultural shows, field demonstrations, farmer field schools and farm visits

  • Participate in development of public/private initiatives and overall policy formulation

  • Prepare technical information in animal production, livestock marketing, range management, apiculture and ranching

  • Promote economic livestock farming, resource technical workshops and seminars, research, invent and advise on livestock production technologies and techniques

  • Develop livestock production programmes/projects and prepare agribusiness, range and farm plans

  • Establish linkages with research institutions and other stakeholders on livestock production matters

  • Coordinate conservation and utilization of range resources

  • Oversee extension activities, implementation of livestock information management systems, and coordinate monitoring and evaluation of livestock programmes

  • Prepare technical papers and reports for professional forums and symposia

  • Participate in formulation of livestock bilateral/multilateral agreements
