PSC Deputy Director, Leather Development Jobs in Kenya



Qualifications for appointment

  • Served for a minimum period of three (3) years in the grade of Assistant Director, Leather Development, CSG 7 or in a comparable and relevant position in the public service

  • Bachelor’s degree in Leather Technology, Footwear Technology, Materials Technologies (Leather), or Leather Goods Design and Development from a university recognized in Kenya
    OR
    Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or Animal Science with a basic two-year certificate or diploma, or at least one year postgraduate training in hides and skins or Leather Technology from a university recognized in Kenya

  • Demonstrated managerial, administrative and professional competence in work performance and exhibited a thorough understanding of national goals, policies, objectives and ability to relate them to proper management of development services

    Duties and responsibilities

  • Prepare work plans for leather products development

  • Participate in formulation, development and review of policies, legislations and strategies for leather development

  • Organize verification of tanning agents and materials and assess tannery waste to prevent environmental pollution

  • Prepare project proposals in leather development for resource mobilization

  • Coordinate inspection and verification of quality and quantity of wool, fur, hides, skins and leather for export

  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements of the hides and skins trade, analyse and interpret data on production trends and make recommendations

  • Plan trainings and demonstrations on best practices to stakeholders for production of high-quality hides, skins and leather products

  • Coordinate sensitization of stakeholders on value addition of skins and leather

  • Participate in research agenda setting on new technology in curing, storage, tanning and tanning chemicals in liaison with other stakeholders

  • Coordinate implementation of policies and legislation in respect to hides, skins, leather and leather goods production and trade

  • Mitigate emerging challenges faced by stakeholders in the leather industry

  • Advise investors on requirements for establishing commercial tanneries
