Qualifications for appointment

  • Cumulative service period of twelve (12) years, three (3) of which must have been at the grade of Principal Lecturer, KIHBT, CSG 7 or in a comparable and relevant position in the public service

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geospatial Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Mechatronics Engineering, Architecture or its equivalent from a university recognized in Kenya

  • Registered by a relevant professional body

  • Registered as a professional and corporate member of the relevant professional body

  • Certificate in Training of Trainers lasting not less than four (4) weeks OR Diploma in Technical Education/Postgraduate Diploma in Education

  • Demonstrated high degree of professional competence and administrative capability as reflected in work performance and results

    Duties and responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategy for the Institute on student recruitment including widening participation, international student experience, student progress, graduation, academic quality, standards and employability

  • Organize orientation programmes for new trainees in all campuses

  • Create and maintain an up-to-date database of trainees for all KIHBT campuses

  • Ensure that critical academic processes are sustained to meet statutory and contractual requirements, and that the Institute’s academic regulatory framework is fit for purpose and compliant with external agency requirements (e.g., CUE, CLE, HELB, KUCCPS and other government agencies)

  • Induct new lecturers/instructors

  • Liaise with donor agencies for provision of scholarships/fellowships

  • Ensure that the HELB Loan Scheme is properly administered

  • Keep custody of academic rules and regulations, practices and norms

  • Keep custody of all students’ academic transcripts and certificates

  • Initiate proposals on generating student fee income and review of students’ fees

  • Contribute to the strategic management and development of the Institute as a member of the management team

  • Work with the Institute’s Financial Resourcing Division to ensure allocation of resources promotes strategic academic objectives, with effective controls in place to support prudent financial and strategic management of academic resources

  • Develop proactive relationships with relevant external stakeholders and monitor developments in best practice within the higher education sector, ensuring creative solutions are incorporated into strategies, policies and procedures in the academic process

  • Prepare reports

  • Coach and mentor staff
