Position Summary
The Programs Director – Humanitarian provides strategic leadership and oversight of Prosper Global Nigeria’s humanitarian portfolio, ensuring effective, high-quality, and principled humanitarian response programming.
The role leads humanitarian strategy, donor engagement, resource mobilization, program quality, and external representation while strengthening learning, innovation, and organizational impact.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
Provide strategic leadership for emergency response, early recovery, and resilience programming across Nigeria.
Identify emerging humanitarian needs, crisis trends, and funding opportunities.
Lead development of humanitarian strategies, operational plans, and program priorities.
Ensure strong integration between humanitarian response and long-term development programming.
Promote adaptive management and evidence-based decision-making.
Humanitarian Donor Engagement & Resource Mobilization
Lead engagement with humanitarian donors and funding partners.
Strengthen organizational positioning for humanitarian funding opportunities.
Provide leadership in the development of proposals, concept notes, and program design initiatives.
Build and maintain relationships with donors, NGOs, UN agencies, government institutions, and private sector partners.
Program Management & Quality
Ensure humanitarian programs are implemented effectively, on time, and within budget.
Ensure compliance with humanitarian principles, Sphere Standards, CHS, and Prosper Global quality frameworks.
Oversee program performance monitoring, learning, and adaptive management processes.
Strengthen coordination and integration across sectors and geographic areas.
Finance & Compliance Management
Ensure effective management of program resources in compliance with organizational policies and donor requirements.
Collaborate with Finance and Operations teams on budgeting, forecasting, and financial oversight.
Monitor financial performance and budget utilization across the humanitarian portfolio.
Ensure compliance with donor regulations and reporting requirements.
Support teams in procurement, sub-award management, and financial compliance.
Ensure timely and accurate financial and narrative reporting.
Strengthen collaboration between program, finance, and operations teams.
Knowledge Management & Thought Leadership
Lead documentation and dissemination of lessons learned and best practices.
Promote evidence generation and organizational learning.
Support development of learning briefs, case studies, impact stories, and knowledge products.
Representation & Coordination
Represent Prosper Global in humanitarian coordination forums, clusters, and donor meetings.
Build strong partnerships with humanitarian actors, government stakeholders, and development partners.
Strengthen Prosper Global’s visibility and leadership within the humanitarian sector.
Team Management
Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical support to senior program staff and field teams.
Strengthen the capacity of national staff and partners.
Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, learning, and professional growth.
Safeguarding Responsibilities
Integrate safeguarding principles into all areas of work.
Uphold organizational values and promote the dignity and wellbeing of participants and staff.
Encourage reporting of safeguarding concerns through established reporting mechanisms.
Supervisory Responsibility
Senior Program Manager.
Emergency Response Start-up Manager.
Program Quality, Evidence & Learning Director.
WASH Technical Advisor.
Reporting Line
Reports directly to the Country Director.
Key Working Relationships
Senior Management Team.
Human Resources, Operations, and Finance Departments.
Regional Technical Advisors and Global Humanitarian Teams.
External partners and stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
Master’s degree in International Development, Humanitarian Studies, or a related field.
Minimum ten (10) years of humanitarian programming experience, including senior leadership positions in complex and insecure environments.
Demonstrated experience managing large-scale humanitarian programs funded by donors such as US DoS, ECHO, and UN agencies.
Proven track record in donor engagement, fundraising, and proposal development.
Strong understanding of humanitarian coordination systems and standards, including Sphere, CHS, and cluster coordination mechanisms.
Excellent leadership, strategic planning, and team management skills.

Living & Working Conditions
Duty station: Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria.
Unaccompanied position with shared staff accommodation.
Travel to field locations is required and conducted in accordance with security protocols.
Strict adherence to security procedures is mandatory.
