  • The Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) is the apex body representing the private sector in Uganda with the main mandates to carry out policy advocacy and capacity building for the private sector.

  • The Foundation is member-based, spanning business associations, the corporate industry and professional bodies drawn from a range of sectors, including manufacturing, agriculture, banking, consulting, trade and export among others.

  • PSFU aims to improve the business environment in Uganda by enhancing the role of the private sector in economic growth and development. The membership of PSFU must be strengthened to achieve this.

  • PSFU invites applications from qualified candidates for the positions of Director Policy and Business Development focuses on policy and advocacy, research, linkages and needed business development services. He/she will help to influence public policy in an effort to improve the business environment on behalf of members.

  • He/she will also keep track of emerging trends, recommends new products and services, proposes and develops new strategic partnerships, writes proposals and plans, and guides long-term objectives to meet business needs and requirements.

  • The position holder is required to have a thorough understanding of the particular issues that need to be addressed, the ability to prepare evidence-based policy proposals and the opportunity to meet with and persuade policy makers and implementers to do something differently or, occasionally, not to do it at all.

  • In addition to influencing and communication ability, advocates will also require tenacity and persistence. .

    Responsibilities

    • Developing and managing all aspects of PSFU Advocacy for private sector competitiveness, including preparation of yearly work plans.

    • Establishing strategies and policies crucial to expanding the presence of a company and its products.

    • Setting business objectives and implementing action plans for achieving set targets.

    • Ensuring that business plans are in line with company growth strategy

    • Liaising with other departments and projects within PSFU to identify advocacy issues.

    • Managing the development and preparation of the annual PSFU’s Private Sector Platform for Action.

    • Working closely with the Advocacy Committee of the Board to identify and set up task forces to prepare agendas and articulate key
    issues in priority advocacy areas.

    • Participate in key government agencies and development partners and programmes involved in private sector development.

    • Identifying, selecting and managing the work of experts to prepare issue papers needed to frame the debate surrounding the private sector perspectives in various platform/issue areas;

    • Representing PSFU at key advocacy fora and committees as will be determined by the Executive Director.

    • Supervising the Policy Advocacy staff to ensure that key economic issues and research is carried out and disseminated as required

    • As a member of the management committee contribute to the general development of PSFU as a whole.

    • Any other duties as will be assigned by the Executive Director from time to time.

    Required Minimum Qualifications

    • A Bachelor’s Degree in Economic Studies or an equivalent and related qualifications. A master’s degree in Economics or related disciplines will be an added advantage.

    • At least five years working experience with business membership organizations in a comparable role.

    • Experience in economic analysis and articulation of pertinent economic issues and their impacts on business will be considered. Exposure to regional economic developments will be an added advantage.

    • A team player with excellent leadership, presentation and networking skills

    • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in the English language.

    • Flexibility and ability to manage many tasks simultaneously with minimum supervision

    • Computer literate
