Preferred Personnel Africa Food Technologist Job Vacancies in Kenya

Our client, a partnership of Root Capital and Partners in Food Solutions, connects corporate volunteers at General Mills, Hershey’s, Cargill, and other multi-national food corporations with small and growing food processing companies in Africa.

Their goal is to increase the capacity of the African food-processing sector to produce high-quality, nutritious, safe, affordable food for local populations, while at the same time increasing and sustaining demand for crops grown by smallholder farmers.

The Food Technologist (FT) contractor will serve as lead liaison between agro-processors on-the-ground and the pool of PFS’s corporate experts to deliver high quality food manufacturing expertise. The FT will enjoy building deep relationships with experts from some of the world’s largest food companies as well as local Ugandan entrepreneurs.

The FT will be required to take on a leadership role to help expand the PFS / Root Capital relationship into East Africa, and specifically in Uganda. Apart from managing the flow of requirements and expertise between PFS, Root Capital and agro-processor clients, the Food Technologist will be responsible for managing the pipeline of prospective businesses and scoping high-impact technical projects based on meetings with owners/managers.

Duties for the Job

  • Have
    a B.Sc. in Food Science or Nutrition or equivalent experience in food technology and or food nutrition.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Have 8 to 10 years working experience in food processing, with at least 2 in a manufacturing facility/ plant.
  • Be both a strategist and an implementer, comfortable with working in an unstructured environment.
  • Have a proven track record in providing technical solutions to food processors.
  • Possess excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Have the ability to manage all parties involved in the process. This includes but is not limited to: food processors, technical volunteers, entrepreneurs etc.
  • Have excellent communication skills; with the ability to communicate clearly with all varying parties, ensuring information shared is not ‘diluted’; e.g. explaining a technical problem to an entrepreneur.
