Responsibilities

  • Take a lead in aligning programs to the Global Strategy and Theory of Change.
  • High-level representational role with the government, donors, partners and other stakeholders.
  • Lead in innovative programme design, planning, follow-up, evaluation, quality strengthening and reporting.
  • Ensure sponsorship projects are aligned with the Global and Country Strategy as well as the Sponsorship commitments.
  • Serve as liaison with designated Plan International National Offices on various program issues.
  • Work closely with thematic specialists to support the development of rights-based programs and projects, to strengthen program innovation and learning, and to spearhead advocacy and campaigning initiatives on child rights and girl’s rights.
  • Take a lead in establishing systems for program monitoring, quality improvement, accountability, evaluation and knowledge management.

    Qualifications

  • In order to succeed in this challenging and varied role you will require demonstrable experience in managing multi and bilateral donor funded grants/contracts and other fund sources in a senior management role.
  • Experience working for INGOs or similar in increasingly senior positions (Programme Director level strongly preferred), ideally with a working knowledge of Kenya.
  • Previous management of programme portfolios in excess of USD10 million annually with multiple partners (including government and civil society).
  • Experience in managing complex and multi-thematic programs, especially in areas of child rights, education, health and child protection.
  • Knowledge of development challenges and contexts in Kenya, in particular in child rights, girl’s rights and child protection.
  • Familiarity with various donor guidelines and requirements.

    Plan NGO Project Officer Jobs in Kenya

    Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the project makes full consideration of the local child protection context including main protection risks for children as well as legal and social wellbeing provision and this informs all stages of the project cycle.
  • Ensure that identification, analysis and management of child protection policy related risks are included in the regular project risk management processes at all stages of the project cycle.
  • Ensure community participation processes in the project, including consultations with children, include specific discussion of protection risk issues from their perspective and possible mitigating actions and strategies that could be incorporated into project design.
  • Ensure stakeholder and partner active engagement in the design, implementation and monitoring of the project activities on child protection, young women economic empowerment and GBV.
  • As part of the regular project monitoring and evaluation, ensure the effectiveness of child protection policy risk mitigation measures incorporated into the project are reviewed.
  • Additional measures may be necessary following the identification of new, emerging or unexpected child protection issues that may arise during the project implementation.
  • Ensure that the monthly activities and budget plans are implemented as per approved breakdown and all partner activities are on track.
  • Ensure all project related partner, government and other stakeholder relations are well maintained. Ensure participation in County and Sub County level partnerships with NGOs and other actors working on GBV and Economic Empowerment to influence Policies.
  • Work with relevant staff to ensure all logistics and procurement
    at a local level including events management are done according to Plan and donor policies.
  • Ensure proper and timely implementation of GBV and Economic empowerment interventions in the PU as per approved work plan, budget and donor requirements.
  • Facilitate access of relevant and accurate information on prevention of violence against children and ensure child protection mechanisms are accessible at both community level and county level (government authorities, policy makers and other relevant stakeholders working with children).
  • Play an advocacy role to ensure that Sub County government take responsibility to institutionalize well-structured referral systems to prohibit all forms of violence on girls and young women.
  • Work with project partners to enhance response to and rehabilitation of survivors of gender-based violence, sexual abuse and transactional sex.
  • Create a Sub County lobby to exchange best practices in order to eradicate GBV. Adopt and integrate best practices in the implementation of the program.
  • Where need-be, represent Plan and the project externally with partners, government and other agencies at county on issues related to the Adolescent Girls’ Advocacy and Economic Empowerment projects’ deliverables.

    Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or Development Studies.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in project management/coordination.
  • Strong knowledge of community development.
  • Conversant with Adolescent Girls’ Advocacy and Economic Empowerment.
  • Experience in grants management, proposal development and resource mobilization.
  • Experience with Sexual and Gender Based Violence projects.
  • Knowledge of urban development issues.
  • Knowledge & experience with Youth and Children with Disabilities projects will be an added advantage.
  • Hold personal values, ethics and attitudes which are in alignment with the principles of the Plan’s Child Protection Policy.

    Plan NGO Project Officer Safer Cities Jobs in Kenya

    Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the project designs are technically sound, have a clear logic and a monitoring plan to track the implementation, incorporating relevant gender considerations.
  • Ensure that the monthly activities and budget plans are implemented as per approved budget and activity lines. Produce periodic tracking reports on the progress of the implementation.
  • Ensure that all the recommendations resulting from project visits/reports are executed
  • Ensure all project related partners, government and other stakeholder relations are well maintained and also ensure that feedback and input from stakeholder fora are incorporated into the implementation of the project.
  • Work with relevant staff to ensure all logistics and procurement are done according to Plan and donor policies. This will include the development of procurement plans.
  • Periodically review the project outline to ensure that implementation is on course and give regular explanations on the variances.
  • Ensure a successful closure of the project once it has been completed

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Arts, Social Sciences, Education or Development Studies.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in project management/coordination
  • Minimum of 3 years working in Urban settings, especially Nairobi
  • Strong Knowledge of community development with focus on adolescent girls and child protection
  • Conversant with child rights issues.
  • Knowledge in donor reporting mechanisms (will be an added advantage)
