  • PlK’s strategic goal in the next five years is to end teenage pregnancies and end all forms of sexual and gender-based violence against adolescent girls and young women. We aim to help create an enabling environment where girls and young women are safe, valued, equally cared for, and have equal opportunities. PIK will contribute to the global strategy by aiming to reach directly approximately 2.75 million (children, including girls and Young Women over the period of the strategy 2022-2026 and to reach additional beneficiaries through its interventions.

    Role Purpose

  • Reporting to the Urban Programme Unit Manager, the Senior Integrated Projects Coordinator (Machakos) will be responsible for overall oversight of Plan Kenya’s operations in Machakos. The incumbent will provide overall managerial accountability in Machakos Satellite Office, sponsorship management and the existing project/s at the Satellite Office for quality and timely delivery of sponsorship communications and projects deliverables.

    Accountabilities and Main Work Activities

    Planning, strategy and policy (10%)

  • Provide strategic leadership and support project teams to develop quality project outlines in line with the Country & Global Strategy and the Program Influencing & Quality Policy (PIQP).

  • Ensure sponsorship and program work directly contributes to the outcomes for girls and young women are realised and that girls take lead in advocating for their rights

  • Influencing stakeholders and duty bearers to the enactment and enforcement of policies relevant to Plan work.

  • Promote sensitization of staff, stakeholders and partners on Plan’s policies, strategies, procedures, values and behaviours.

  • Enhance compliance to child sponsorship policies and guidelines

    Project design, planning & Implementation at PU level (20%)

  • Provide leadership in program design, while ensuring meaningful stakeholder (girls, boys, youth, communities and partners) engagement, to inform priorities of program participants in the project design, implementation and evaluation

  • Enhance realization of children and girls’ rights through design and implementation of gender transformative program interventions.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant donor policies, contracts and agreements.

  • Implement a case approach to sponsorship management to enable the PU to track progress of each family which has a sponsored child.

  • Monitor adherence to donor requirements, timely and quality reporting as well as risk management.

  • Lead start-up meetings of all new projects including sponsorship funded projects to guarantee a joint understanding among stakeholders and hold joint monitoring meeting with partners in the various projects bi annually

    Partnership management and networking (10%)

  • Act as the liaison and maintain cordial working between the organization and the County leadership with the various government departments Plan works with.

  • Represent PIK in relevant County level cluster meetings and promote it’s development agenda.

  • Promote effective working relations with county and sub-county stakeholders

  • Promote active engagement and participation of boys, girls, men, women and communities in all project activities.

  • Map potential implementing and
    influencing partners for sustained Business Development

    Financial Responsibility (10%)

  • The incumbent will have oversight of all financial aspects of projects and program as the primary budget holder for PU allocated budgets.

  • The incumbent will act within the provided delegated authority for all financial related processes

  • S/he will track projects and sponsorship activity budgets during implementation phases and report on any variances to relevant project/ program managers and the Country Office finance manager.

  • Monitor expenditures to promote prudent budget management.

    Logistics admin and procurement oversight (10%)

  • Support the development and usage of procurement plans in execution of project activities.

  • Oversight on asset, fleet, office and inventory management

  • In close collaboration with the Senior Administration Co-ordinator, ensure smooth operations for effective and efficient implementation of program and sponsorship activities at the PU

  • Support procurement functions including engagement of service providers.

  • Development and submission of administration related reports.

    Risk Management (5%)

  • Provide leadership in risk mapping and documentation.

  • Consultatively with PU and CO stakeholders put mitigation measures for programme risks at the PU level

  • Continually monitor the risks environment and act as appropriate.

  • Ensure all PU staff understand PU risks and related responsibilities.

    Qualifications/ experience essential:

    Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Project Management, Development studies and related disciplines.

  • At least 7 Years’ experience in relevant field preferable in management of multiple projects

  • A minimum 3 Years in a leadership/managerial role

  • Demonstrable experience managing projects with budgets over and above US$1 million preferably across various thematic areas.

  • Demonstrable experience in project cycle management

  • Effective team management experience

  • Thorough knowledge of programming methodologies.

  • Demonstrable experience in Gender Transformative programming

  • Sound understanding of integrated and rights-based programming.

  • Willingness to sign and adhere to the Plan International Kenya policy on safeguarding children and young people.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Kiswahili and English.

    Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of gender and inclusion and global/local development issues, with particular knowledge in girls’ rights and child rights, feminist movements, the key actors and institutions, and the power dynamics involved.

  • Mastery of key gender inequalities, gaps, barriers and opportunities at the national, regional and global level and gender and inclusion in programs, and especially for children and girls.

  • In-depth knowledge on different types of partnerships and civil society strengthening and capacity building. Understanding issues, principles and strategies and their root causes and working with Plan’s principles and a range of strategies and approaches to improve outcomes

    Skills

  • Ability to lead project managers and staff to design and implement evidence-based solutions for gender transformative programmes, and to provide monitoring and quality assurance support to the programme areas.

  • Ability to apply a range of gender and inclusion analysis tools and conduct high-quality and nuanced gender and inclusion analysis from a child rights perspective.

  • Excellent relationship building skills – networking, influencing and stakeholder management skills

  • Ability to identify, analyze and monitor diverse, relevant external actors to work with and understand the purpose and implications of working with them.

  • Experience in developing strong, equal and robust partnership contracts or experience in strengthening civil society
