Plan International Gender Specialist - ECW Project Jobs in South Sudan

The Organisation

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls. We believe in the power and potential of every child. But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it’s girls who are most affected.

Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children.

We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood. And we enable children to prepare for – and respond to – crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge. We have been building powerful partnerships for children for over 85 years, and are now active in more than 80 countries.

The Opportunity

As the Gender and Safeguarding Specialist, you will lead on technical oversight and gender mainstreaming for the consortium implementing the new phase of the ECW Multi-year Resilience Programme (MYRP) in South Sudan (2023-2025). The programme will be implemented in fourteen priority counties of South Sudan, with the aim of ensuring children, and especially girls and young women, have access to education.

Plan International is the Gender Lead Organisation for the consortium, with responsibility for ensuring gender is mainstreamed across all activities, supporting consortium partners with technical support, and engaging local and national education stakeholders on issues pertinent to gender.

The Gender specialist must be a strong educationist and will provide overall leadership for integrating gender responsive and gender-transformative approaches across ECW MYRP Consortium Members and implementing partners.

The position will work alongside all Education thematic
leads to ensure the successful delivery of a quality gender transformative programme that responds to the needs of women and girls, men and boys in all their diversity, and challenges discriminatory gender norms and harmful practices, prevents and responds to gender-based violence (GBV), and promotes women and girls’ empowerment.

The Individual

We are looking to recruit an innovative individual who has extensive demonstrable experience in gender or GBV with a humanitarian organisation. You will be knowledgeable of and have practical experience in gender mainstreaming, community-level gender transformative approaches, protection, and inclusion/disability.

You will also manage a programme cycle and you will have experience working in an insecure and politically sensitive environment.

To be successful in this role you will work to a high degree of professionalism and integrity, and you will have excellent coordination, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

You will be able to communicate clearly and strategically with stakeholders and you will also create a strong sense of purpose and commitment with your own operations. A strong command of both written and spoken English is essential and knowledge of a local language is strongly desired.
