Job Purpose:

Lead and Coordinate timely evaluation of Electricity generation project applications, monitor and evaluate Electricity generation project developments and promote investments in the electricity sector

Duties/Responsibilities

Guide timely evaluation of new power project applications both at permit and licensee stage for appropriateness in line with ERA’s requirements and SOPs.

Initiate the preparation of permit and license application evaluation reports for Management decisions

Ensure communication of recommended changes to project Applicants in a timely manner.

Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation checklists to track progress of project implementation against the terms and conditions in the license.

Manage an up-to-date database of all on-going projects.

Promote development of renewable and alternative sources of electricity in Uganda.

Participate in energy planning (forecast of demand vis-s-vis supply) for the county and provide appropriate guidance to Management for decision making purposes.

Perform technical analysis to ensure technically sound and viable evacuation solutions for the new generation projects.

Provide technical guidance on the licensing of private transmission projects for evacuation of power plants.

Represent Electricity Regulatory Authority in sector stakeholder seminars, meetings and workshops.

Prepare reports on new projects & investments in generation for appropriateness.

Participate in the development of work plans & budgets for projects unit and the Technical Regulation Department.

Undertake sector Stakeholder sensitization and education.

Design and implement a framework for guiding workers in your unit in line with the unit’s objectives.

Perform any other duties as may be reasonably assigned by the Supervisor or Management.

Academic Qualifications and Working experience

Master's Degree in Renewable Energy, Electrical

or Civil Engineering with bias in power systems

An Honors Degree preferably in Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering with a bias in electric power systems or power generation plants.

The candidate should be a registered Engineer or registrable with Uganda Engineers Registration Board with in one year.

Must have 5 years relevant working experience in a technical/engineering environment of an electricity generation, transmission, distribution and sales utility or comparable organization, 3 of which at managerial level

Should be 35 years of age and above.

Additional skills

Project management skills.

Engineering design tools including computer-based design techniques.

Skilled in Monitoring and Evaluation of Projects.

Knowledge of electricity systems, particularly renewable energy systems and new power generation technologies.

Conversant with Electricity Policy of Uganda government.

Technical innovation skills and good interpersonal and communication skills.

Should be a team player.

Good communication skills (written and oral).

Proficiency in relevant computer packages.

Analytical skills.
