Penda Health Department Manager Laboratory Jobs in Kenya;Provide technical leadership in laboratory services, ensuring quality assurance, compliance with KMLTTB and regulatory standards, and operational excellence across Penda Medical Centers. Guide laboratory teams, strengthen SOPs, and drive adoption of digital tools to deliver accurate, reliable, and clinically useful results.

Key Responsibilities

Be a Penda Leader

  • Model and champion the Penda Way — accountability, integrity, collaboration, and excellence.

  • Coach and mentor Laboratory In‑Charges to strengthen leadership and operational discipline.

  • Promote collaboration with Branch and Regional Managers.

  • Lead regular lab forums and meetings to foster alignment and knowledge sharing.

  • Create a positive, empowering environment for lab teams.

    Drive Operational Excellence

  • Own delivery of laboratory KPIs including quality control, turnaround time, and efficiency.

  • Standardize workflows, SOPs, and reporting tools.

  • Drive adoption of EMR and digital tools for results management.

  • Identify and resolve operational gaps promptly.

  • Champion exceptional patient experience using feedback data.

    Lead Talent Development & Performance

  • Partner with HR to recruit, onboard, and retain skilled laboratory professionals.

  • Ensure structured onboarding and ongoing coaching for In‑Charges.

  • Identify skill gaps and coordinate targeted learning and mentorship.

  • Monitor completion of mandatory training through Talent LMS.

  • Build leadership pipeline by nurturing In‑Charges as future leaders.

    Ensure Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and maintain SOPs and quality systems aligned with regulatory requirements.

  • Conduct audits, inspections, and quality checks across medical centers.

  • Strengthen adherence to quality control, calibration, and biosafety protocols.

  • Use audit findings and data to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.

  • Promote continuous improvement by scaling high‑performing practices.

    Lead
    Departmental Initiatives & Support Growth

  • Lead initiatives enhancing efficiency, quality, and cost‑effectiveness.

  • Collaborate with Innovation, IT, Procurement, and Supply Chain teams.

  • Support new branch openings with lab setup and licensing.

  • Oversee growth of services such as Point‑of‑Care Testing (POCT).

  • Contribute to cross‑functional projects strengthening clinical operations.

    Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma in Laboratory Technology from a recognized institution.

  • Registration with KMLTTB and valid practicing license.

  • Internal: Minimum 2 years’ experience at Penda, with at least 1 year as Laboratory In‑Charge; branch manager experience an advantage.

  • External: Minimum 3–4 years’ laboratory practice, with at least 2 years in supervisory or technical leadership role.

  • Proven experience managing lab operations, quality systems, and compliance.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and drive performance improvement.

    Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership and coaching ability.

  • Excellent knowledge of laboratory quality systems and diagnostic workflows.

  • Strong planning, coordination, and analytical skills.

  • Effective communication and collaboration across teams.

  • High integrity, accountability, and alignment with the Penda Way.
