EnCompass LLC is seeking a candidate for a 3-month consultancy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to fulfill the role of Gender Analysis and SBCC Consultant for the USAID TRANSFORM- Primary Health Care project, which aims to contribute to preventing maternal and child deaths by strengthening the health system in Ethiopia.

EnCompass is part of a consortium of implementing partners, led by Pathfinder, working together to support the operationalization of the governments’ Health Sector Transformation Plan at multiple levels of the health system.

The project is providing training and mentorship for healthcare managers and service providers to conduct gender analyses in their facilities and develop action plans to address gender-related barriers to improved maternal and child healthcare.

The consultant will serve as a resource and trainer for mentors to support facilities to carry out gender analyses.

The Gender Analysis and SBCC consultancy position will be based in the Addis Ababa project office with travel to project sites in Amhara, Oromia, SNNPR, and Tigray as needed.

This consultant will report on day to day basis to the Addis Ababa-based Senior Gender Advisor on technical matters and administrative issues related to EnCompass.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with gender integration and analysis in primary health care, as well as curriculum development and training experience.

This is a 3 -month consultancy from August 1, 2019 – October 31, 2019.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review, revise, and finalize existing gender analysis
    mentorship curriculum
  • Organize and facilitate 4 training of trainers for gender analysis mentors, one in each of the project’s 4 regions
  • Assist in training preparation and logistics
  • Conduct post-training follow-up visit and provide on-site techncial support on gender analysis and integration.
  • Work closely with the project team and mentors in the regions to respond to technical assistance requests for gender analyses and action plan development, as needed.
  • Prepare coaching and mentoring sessions for the Social and Behavior Change
  • Communication (SBCC) team on gender integration
  • Ensure gender integration in SBCC-related grant activities, including but not limited to community sensitization and engagement workshops
  • Participate in monitoring and follow-up visits of SBCC activities

    Qualifications][

  • At a minimum, a Bachelor’s Degree with at least 5 years of experience in the areas of public health, gender studies, social sciences, or a related field.
  • Strong technical expertise in gender integration in the health sector at the community, health facility, and local government level
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical guidance and support for gender analyses in health facilities
  • Experience developing curriculum or facilitator guides
  • Proven track record of successful teamwork, good presentation/facilitation skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Familiarity with participatory training methods and adult learning methodology preferred
  • Understanding of international development processes and USAID projects
  • Ability to think strategically and integrate diverse information from varied sources
  • Fluency in Amharic, English. Knowledge of Afan Oromo or Tigrigna, preferred.
  • Strong technical and general writing skills
  • Strong planning, organization, and strategic thinking skills
