  • PATH is seeking a Research Associate to join the public health team in the Diagnostics (Dx) Program. The Dx Program advances and increases access to quality and appropriate diagnostics that improve health outcomes of underserved populations. Working across the product development process, we innovate, introduce, and integrate critical diagnostic tools to achieve health impact. The public health role in product development leverages many skillsets and disciplines: qualitative and quantitative research methods, user/human centered design, user experience/design thinking, implementation research, epidemiology, anthropology, sociology, behavioral economics, to name a few. Equally valuable are skills in building collaborations, partnering with broad stakeholder groups, working across projects and teams around the world, clear communication (verbal and written), and strong time and people management. .

  • The Research Associate role is a critical member of agile, dynamic product development teams, and is integrally involved in designing, producing, critiquing, improving, and disseminating rigorous and thoughtful results, as well as summarizing complex concepts into concise and approachable materials. A successful applicant already has training and experience in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, and ideally human-centered design principles. Other elements of our core public health methodologies in product development we will help develop. This role will work across several projects, with current projects focused on maternal and child
    health diagnostics. .

    Primary job duties are in the following areas: .

    • Qualitative and quantitative research focused on the user to inform and guide product design and development. .

    • Product evaluations to measure diagnostic attributes such as clinical performance and implementation among intended users (health workers, caregivers, clients) in the intended contexts of use (settings in low- and middle-income countries, LMICs). .

    • Partnership and collaboration building to connect early product research with future implementation and health system integration. .

    • Business development and proposal writing to create or expand new areas of work.

    Required Experience.

    * This position is open to current PATH employees only

    • Master’s degree in public health or other research discipline with at least 2 years research experience. Desired: Experience working in LMIC settings.

    • Demonstrated experience synthesizing/summarizing technical reports and reviews, policy and clinical guidelines.

    • Demonstrated ability supporting the conduct of studies including study design, protocol and study tool development, training, and primary data collection (interviews, focus groups, surveys, cross-sectional and longitudinal studies). Desired: Experience conducting studies in LMIC settings.

    • Qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills, with applicable software tools. Desired: Design thinking and human-centered design skills, with applicable software tools.

    • Experience supporting human subjects research and clinical operations, including coordination with ethics committees. Desired: GCP familiarity.

    • Effective written communication skills (reports, presentations, and papers). Desired: Experience publishing in peer-reviewed journals and disseminating project findings.

    • Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external partners.

    • Demonstrated ability working across teams, programs, departments, and time zones.
