PATH - IDDS Uganda COVID-19 Response Diagnostic Consultant Jobs in Uganda


Introduction

  • With the threats of the new coronavirus, COVID-19, earlier in the year, The Uganda government declared the COVID-19 pandemic a national emergency and the National Task Force (NTF) activated the COVID-19 Incident Management System with an Incident Manager to coordinate the implementation of various preparedness efforts.

  • The NTF approved a preparedness and response plan focusing on the following pillars: coordination, surveillance, laboratory, water sanitation and hygiene, risk communication, logistics, psychosocial support and case management, and called upon partners including IDDS, to support the Ministry of Health (MoH) in a coordinated effort.

  • IDDS reprogrammed some GHSA funds to support COVID-19 response.

  • IDDS will collaborate with key partners including UNHLS, UVRI, NTF and international partners in implementing the COVID-19 support.

  • A report on the output of this support will be shared with all key stakeholders and partner organizations operating in Uganda.

    Activity

  • The consultant will support the IDDS COVID-19 activities through preparation, coordination, and implementation of the proposed activities in collaboration with the key stakeholders.

  • The consultant will be required to travel to the regions or districts selected to ensure that the IDDS activities are carried out accordingly.

  • The consultant is expected to travel to selected COVID-19 regions/districts to support activities as needed.

    The consultant will be expected to:

  • Work with laboratory sub-committee
    and key stakeholders in the selected regions or districts, and implement trainings in biosafety, sample collection, transportation, data capture and laboratory information submission and result reporting for laboratory staff in line with training materials developed through the Laboratory Pillar for COVID-19 outbreak response and in line with approved national training materials.

  • Participate in the Laboratory Pillar of the COVID-19 outbreak response meetings.

    Required Experience

  • A minimum of a master’s degree in Laboratory Medicine, Infectious disease management, epidemiology, public health, Health Services Management, or a related field

  • A minimum of five years of experience in the field of Laboratory medicine

  • Technical competency in capacity building/training is required

  • Working knowledge of COVID-19 is desirable

  • Fluency in written and spoken English.

  • Strong interpersonal skills in facilitation and stakeholder engagement/coordination.
