Position Description:

  • The Financial Services Investment Advisor will lead the Investment team, including all supply-side efforts facilitate the financial sector to significantly expand its financing and investment into the programs targeted sectors, as measured by transaction closed and portfolio growth.

  • The Advisor will provide and/or oversee technical assistance, training and capacity building in support USAID’s policy framework: Journey to Self-Reliance, a key performance indicator of this activity.

    Responsibilities

    • Responsible for developing and managing strong partnerships with financial institutions and investors to catalyze access to credit, at significant scale, for small, medium and large enterprises in the targeted sectors.

    • Develop and manage at least 5 strategic partnerships between KIM and the private sector that increase access to financing at scale.

    • Facilitate training and technical assistance to financial sector that results in the expansion of the financial institutions’ lending to KIM targeted sectors.

    • Facilitate partnerships between lenders, and public and private risk-mitigating partners, such as the DFC Credit Guarantee.

    • Lead the communication activities (both written and verbal) that highlight the successes of financial institutions in expanding financing to our private sector partners.

    • Develop excellent working relationships and serve as the lead contact for financial institutions, investors, enterprises, and other stakeholders.

    • Supervise those subcontractors involved with facilitating training and technical assistance to the financial sector.

    • Closely monitor transaction closures, ensuring compliance with both financial and social impact requirements.

    • Effectively manage team members and
    technical consultants to achieve contract delieverables and work plan results.

    • Prepare weekly, quarterly, and annual reports. Provide material for and participate in webinars, workshops, and conferences, including writing articles and speaking at public events.

    • Travel as necessary within Kenya to support the monitoring and successful closure of deals.

    • Other duties as deemed necessary.

    Requirements

    • Master’s Degree in Finance or Banking.

    • 5 years’ experience (10 preferred) on financial projects and/or in the banking sector in developing countries.

    • Proven experience operating successfully in the Kenyan financial sector.

    • 5 years’ experience managerial experience: ensuring alignment with project goals, managing and coordinating staff, and managing employee performance.

    • Demonstrated soft skills: critical thinking, problem solving, analytical thinking, detail-oriented, negotiation, and communication skills.

    • Proven experience developing and finalizing high quality reporting deliverables.

    • Excellent verbal, written, presentation communication skills.

    • Demonstrated ability to think and plan strategically.

    • Kenyan professional.
