Job Description
1. Introduction
Pact is a US-based Non-Governmental organization that has been engaged in a number of poverty alleviation and development programs in Ethiopia since 1996.
Pact’s unique contribution as a development partner lies in the vitality, breadth and sectoral composition of its development programs.
2. Background
Pact in collaboration with a local partner – Peace and Development Center (PDC) has been operating the SIPED II program in Itang Special woreda, implementing the P2P initiative with peacebuilding and trauma healing components.
Although the project has achieved significant results in Itang Special woreda, the situation in Gambella town is characterized by growing tension among different ethnic groups.
The President’s office of Gambella Regional State, therefore, requested scaling of Itang’s experience to Gambella town and reaching additional adjustment TIR target kebeles.
Therefore under the rapid response program, Pact proposes to address the issue through scaling up the trauma healing approach to 6 Kebeles in Itang namely Awany, Itangker, Adowong, Bideil, Derong and Waar and all the five kebeles in Gambella town.
The main objective of the TIR program is to create opportunities for people at the most local level to better understand what trauma is and its multifaceted negative effects, to support healing, and help members to come together as a community to plan community-wide activities and structures to support further healing, reconciliation and ultimately a comprehensive approach to social healing and community development.
It will focus on having trauma-informed approaches to program management, community peacebuilding and leadership development.
While conducting the Yegarachin pilot program – there were members in the group who needed mental health support that was beyond the capacity of the Community Facilitators who were volunteers and recruited from the community to facilitate the group healing sessions.
In this response TIR program as well, there might be members who need mental health support.
In order to support this as well as backstop the work of the CFs themselves (who could also be victims as well) and be able to equip them to manage similar cases in their group support, supervision and technical backstopping will be needed from mental health experts.
3. Objective
The general objective is to provide backstopping support to the TIR CFs that are implementing Yegarachin in the above mentioned six kebeles Itang Special Woreda and 5 kebeles of Gambella town in Gambella Regional State.
In order to effectively provide this backstopping technical assistance and guidance in the area of trauma healing, the major tasks under this are:
1. Train and provide technical support in the TIR Framework and Yegarachin program together with the other teams to the recruited Community Facilitators (CFs)
2. Support and supervise the CFs to enable the CFs share or address their stress and support to address challenges the CFs might encounter during facilitating the group healing session through:
